Looking to install my lift tomorrow, and needed a visual. Found this video on youtube to be very helpful so you can actually see how things are done.

Just posting it for those people like me who are really new to all of this:

Those are the videos that I used to Install my lift!! Very Helpful. I used the Video to disassemble everything and the Lift directions for installing the spacers.

so i have the strut out and the spring compressed. However, I can not get that center strut nut to loosen. It simply turns the whole assembly. Tried to grab it with grips and wrench of the nut, but I clearly do not have the strength for it or something. Any ideas?

I know you got it out but just to clarify(in case someone reads this later) there is an allen head in the top of the shock bolt. In one of my old ones the hole was rusted out. I soaked it with liquid wrench and then hit it with the impact to get it off.
I've also read (but never tried) that you can get a set of vice grips in there and hold the shaft with them.

Also for future searchers, If all else fails, clamp some vice grips on the rod as tight as you can. Then take a MAPP torch (like you can get at the big box stores for $30) and heat the nut up until its orange. Put a wrench on the nut and it'll spin off with very little effort.
Be advised that even if you seperate the upper plastic/rubber spring isolator from the upper mount you may want to have a spare on hand. I've melted one of the four that I've done this way

I did it the same way as Jason and Chris mentioned. I used a set of Locking Pliers to hold the shaft and took some Big Azz pliers and clamped onto the shaft, PB Blasted it and Heated that Sucker up and had my friend take the nut off while I held the pliers. Came off like it was nothing.

Not bad for a first time when and nothing but basic tools. Started as not mechanically inclined at all, I must say, was a lot more work then I realised though.

Just a FYI:
I have NEVER had to unbolt the upper ball joint to install a lift or swap struts..
But a good Video non the less..

Good point Mark. That is an unnecessary group of steps. I guess he had to because he removed the shock without removing the lower shock yolk.
