Tire size advice please

Need new shoes? This is the place to discuss.

by Regulator1175 » Tue Aug 17, 2010 11:49 am

I am going to be hitting the order button later tonight on a new set of tires. I would like some advice on tire size to order.

I have 2.5" suspension / 3" body lifts and am not afraid to cut. I have the 3.73 gears so I am a bit concerned how the larger tires will fare with them.

I am going to be going with the Tread Wright Guard Dog M/T's but am back and forth on size.

285/70/17 D Rating:$649.45 (5 tires)

Tread Depth: 19/32”
Meas. Rim Width: 8.5"
Tread Width: 9.1”
Rim Width Range: 7.5-9”
Max Load: 3,195 lbs
Outer Diameter: 33.3”
Max PSI: 65 psi
Section Width: 11.5”

265/70/17 C rating: $518.50 (5 tires)

Tread Depth: 19/32”
Meas. Rim Width: 8”
Tread Width: 8.75”
Rim Width Range: 7-8.5”
Max Load: 2,470 lbs
Outer Diameter: 32.25”
Max PSI: 50 psi
Section Width: 10.7”

Is the extra 1" in tire height and .25" in width worth an extra $130 out of the wallet?

Get the 285s. The size difference is more noticeable than you think. Anything smaller will look silly with the body lift. And that 1/2" ground clearance actually can come in handy.

285's.

.5 inch of ground clearance is worth it. You need to keep in mind that you lose clearance when airing down so i would try and stick with as much as possible.

if you did not drive so much I would tell you to buy the 34's from me, but I wouldnt want to have them on the highway as much as you are.

I am really really looking for some 35's so take a look in your area if you can...

32s are off the scale for small. Sell them to a CRV owner.

I remember buying those 32's... I think they were well worth the $10.50 I paid and the random stuff you got me to pay me back. They were a deal...now sell them and make us some money...or i can get them seperated to sell.

I like them. Need to see how much tread they have and make my swampers disappear. I think those would fit the bill nicely for my truck.

Mail the guy and see if he will trade the swampers for them. He said he wanted the cash for new tires.

I figure I best explain, don't want you to think I was serious.

The tires and wheels I was talking about was an ebay find of Kyle's. He paid $10 for them, but had me pick them up since they were in my area. The tires are junk, have enough tread to get you to discount tire to have a new set put on, and the rims needed some paint and alot of cleaning. I have tried a few times, unsuccessfully, to sell them. They are currently still sitting in my garage.

You want to buy them? :thumleft:

This is an aggressive post. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to be able to appreciate a post of this quality and depth.

I ran 265s on stock suspension on my 03... :) Go big! But also expect to run around a lot in 3 instead of OD. I had to do that with the 265s, and I switched back to 255s for street use.
