Z, I'll have to mention it may be wise to try the old fashion balancing method. I'd hate to see you get new tires and have the same issue without proving it's not the beads first. :idea:

Good point. A redesign of a tire that didn't get the best ratings in the world coupled with balancing beads could be creating the issue as well. We ave all seen the arguments surrounding the beads. They are better fit for bike and maybe you are finding out why.

Now I have mostly good suspension again, with the minor exception of a loose inner tie rod ends I missed last weekend, I was going to pull the trigger on tires. Now I'm concerned about the MTRs, and the sidewall Kevlar wouldn't have prevented any of the tread punctures I've been getting. So it looks like another set of the ProComp XTreme MTRs that got me on the Rubicon and Moab. Assume yours are holding up, Kyle?

Got no complaints. Planning to get another balance after Tecore just to ensure wear, but seem to be going strong with about 12,000 or so miles. No issues so far. Wear seems good, traction is good year round and they hold air without leakage. What more can I ask for?

they've always worked for me.

The vibration isnt terrible, Ive felt worse, but I am just upset at how the tires are wearing. Local 4x4 guys up here only recomend the MTR to people with solid front axels. The guys at the shop have noticed that solid axle trucks dont have the feathering problem.

They also recomended I look at the goodyear duratrac. And I gotta say its a pretty sweet tire at $240 a pop. Considering mine were around $300. Plus the duratracs are a few pounds lighter per tire. So I should get some acceleration and fuel millage back if I go that way.

I also like the Micky Thompson ATZ tires. Again I was recomended to go with the Duractrac instead.

SO that is where I stand boys. Please give me your input on these 2 tires only. For the moment these are the only tires on my radar.

Yup those are the tires! Crazzy thing was at the local 4x4 shop they had them and the duractacs, the duratracs and my MTR have the same depth of tread around 19mm.......the Mickey allterains were almost 22mm!!! I guess thats why they advertise it as the AT tires that has 33% more tread then any tire in its class. But again its a very very luggy tire, so there will always be a worry of cupping issues again.

I am gona go to a new shop to have my alignment checked tomorrow. I will post and update afterwards.

Today I went to another shop. I had all suspension components and the alignment checked. EVERYTHING IS PERFECT!!!

SO basicaly, here is the answer to why MT/R tires feather on my truck......BECAUSE ITS SIMPLY A BAD MATCH. Be it the tread, the rubber compound, or the load rating, whatever....it just isnt ever gona be perfect on a trailblazer.

Like I have said before, many people with solid front axles dont seem to have a problem.

I get where you are coming from JD about the ATZ, but they have more void then the picture justifies. But yes, not like an MT tire. Again, I have to consider I spend 75% percent of my time on the pavement.

I am leaning pretty hard towards grabbing a set of the Duratracs to replace the MT/R.

I thought that way when I got my Silent Armor ATs. But they failed me on so many trails that (for me at least) it wasn't worth the compromise. Some MTs suck at wet pavement, but you can drive to accommodate that better than you can make up for AT performance offroad. Not being able to justify two sets of tires/rims, I had to tilt toward full time MTs. But your access to my kind of trails is limited anyway. Just don't go out solo on the most challenging trails - go with somebody who has MTs. :safari:

I think the Duratracs will hold up just as will if not better then the MTR. They have just as much tread depth, lots of good sipping and strong blocks. They even have some really nice shoulder blocks. Plus huge weight loss will be a welcome change and improvement to my mpg and acceleration.

The largest and most well known Jeep club up here has seen a huge movement towards these tires since their release last year.

And again as Roadie and I live by this theory. You buy what you need for where your going. I will be hitting totally different trails then him, so a different tire or Load may be better for me.

Not to hijack the thread, but, how would you rate the BFG ATs you currently have vs. the Silent Armor. As I mentioned before I'm leaning heavily towards the Wrangler SA's, but I don't go to trails that are as challenging as the ones you go into.
This is an aggressive post. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to be able to appreciate a post of this quality and depth.

Still on the mtr's? Gonna try to ride it out or still gonna sell and try something else?

I have to toss it out there...check out the Pro Comps if you switch. Barton can attest to the traction tests I was doing and couldnt break them loose, plus they ride and wear pretty good for a mt. Noise is not an issue either.
