Transfer Case Output Shaft Seal Replacement Rear

Trailblazer and Envoy related, but not off-road related...

I had a leaking Output Shaft Seal on my Transfer Case. Changed the seal yesterday, it was the first time for me removing the propeller shaft and now i have some questions.
First here is the picture of the leaking seal:

The removed propeller shaft:

First question is what is that bushing inside the transfer case? From viewing the seal it couldn´t have to do with the sealing. The bushing has some deepening that runs diagonal from one side to the other side of the bushing. There are two "deepenings" inside.

Next question is there is a missing spline on the slip yoke but it does n´t seem that it is broken. Is that normal?

I have already installed the new seal but would go safe with some more information from you guys.

I dont know about the bushing, but the spline looks like a master spline. That way it can only fit in one way. That way everything stays geared the same. Just my best guess.

That was what i first thought too, but on the transfer case shaft there are all splines:

Both the ones I have seen are the same way. My thought was that is there to allow a little bit of transfer case fluid in there to lube the slip yoke.
