If you've not purchased yet now's the time to research the right options! Gearing and G80 especially possibly the EXT

@boog2006. correct i have not purchased my tb yet. i have a little while to search. im not goin to be doing any hardcore off road for a while as i am still in college and i need it to still be a streetable ride. 4x4 is a must as is a lift and tires haha. which model has the g80? or will i have to buy that and install myself? when i was sixteen we had a tb but i was more of a audi person then so i didnt look into modifying it.

While you are shopping make sure the TB you get has 3.73 gearing or lower to run 33s.
If you get a V8, it also has the stronger 8.6 rear end vs the 8.0. I also seem to recall (someone please chime in) that with the V8 you can run the 33's with the 3.42 gears without overworking the tranny.

As far as the G80, it is an option, look for the code G80 in the glove box.
If you don't find one with a G80, the advantage of the 8.6 rear is you can get an aftermarket locker which is usually stronger than the G80.

alright thank you for the info. im not set on 33 but i would much prefer them. from what i can tell it is alot of work and kinda expensive. like i said before im very new to lifting trucks/suvs as ive olny driven/moded audi/volkswagon vehicles(very fast and fun) ive been looking on here a bit and i see people that have slightly smaller then 33 and a 2-4 inche lift. i would rather not cut a bumper but i will if completely necessary. @navigator...this tb will not see much if any deep mud simply because im a student and cant afford to spend all that money. im thinking about the markmc 3 inche suspension lift and a slightly smaller tire? i saw another member build( battlemode) and he ran 33.07 with a 4 in lift i believe. something like that, just simple for what i need/want. im just lost on where to go/start.

Of course I would sell you mine and go buy one for myself with specific options! Great idea!

You start with an offer...I'll deliver too ;)

Yea definitely find one with 3.73 gears and a G80 option. I couldn't find one when I was looking that had low miles, not trashed inside, and had the sun & sound package ( sunroof/Bose ) I didn't have being lifted in my goals at that point, just needed a tow vehicle for my boat.

Also being a college student I know cash is often tight, those of us with lifts and large tires are getting only 14-18mpg. I know I grumble from time to time about my $75 fill ups, but in the end I still love my TB. Just don't be shocked about fuel consumption :)

i understand the gas mileage compensation. i am prepared for that haha. im looking at mainly 2002-2004 but would like a higher year. well what would you be willing to sell yours for. Are there certain ones, like ls, ext lt that typically have the gearing and g80? also id like to not have an extended one cause thats more then i need.

i don't think you'll be able to find a 4 inch lift. Probably best one available is Mark's. you can always get the extra lift from getting a body lift from Mark or zone off Road.

You can get 4" by doing the 3" lift and new springs up front...

Right...Moog 81114s and the 2.5" lift gave me about 5" upfront. Check my build thread.
