Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

Has anyone ever seen that skid plate?

Trailblazer and Envoy related, but not off-road related...

Has anyone ever seen that skid plate? It is made of 3mm steel and protects the transmission and pan. It is listed for 2006 and up. What did you think about it?

It´s a manufacturer called sheriff. Did not know anything about them. But it was more the design which i haven´t seen so far. I´m in research for more underbody protection. You could found them for example here:
http://www.unterfahrschutz.eu/Chevrolet/index_englisch.htm

At the moment i´ll collect all kind of dirt on the wimpy plastic tank plate protection, and that picture shows it after i have cleaned it out!

I haven't seen that one, before. I had considered making a skid that goes from the rear of my oil pan skid to the trans crossmember, but our transmission sits so high above the frame that we don't have much need for protection back there. Also, since it's a pretty good span, there's not a whole lot that you're going to be able to do to take any REAL amount of weight, even with the ~4.6mm steel that I use, even with flanges on it. I'll make one if it turns out that there's a market and/or a need for it, but I just haven't seen it yet.

Karsten, that looks very similar to one that I found a while back made in Israel. I'd have to root through my emails sometime to find it. Mario might recall the name. Might be cheaper to ship to you.

Matt was talking about this earlier this evening and I was envisioning a plate that went from frame rail to frame rail. That looks a good bit more simple.

You don't want to enclose the cat. The one I'm (likely) making for Moots and am making for Kyle is like that one on the cat side, and goes to the frame rail on the driver's side, with just a strengthening bar to the frame, in the middle, on the cat side.

Would the cat end up close to the skid plate if it went straight across? I know jeep had that recall for the 2010 Wranglers because the redesigned cat location wasn't adjusted for in the skid plates. Supposedly stuff could get caught inbetween the plate and cat and maybe catch fire.
It seems to be relatively common for skid plates to be made specifically to protect the cat for the jeep guys and they seem to be a flat plate usually. Obviously a full plate would be massive and expensive to ship.
Care to share your thoughts on the design decision?

Looks like it would be a little close, but more than that, yeah, stuff gets caught up in there and catches fire, etc. I'd also be concerned about the cat making the paint/body above it too hot if it it got closed in and didn't have airflow over it. Modern, 3-way cats make a TON of heat! Then there's the recall on the Cruze where the whole middle of the engine shield got cut out, because leaked or spilled oil that was on the shield ignited because it was so close to the cat. Also, the cross brace will be below the cat, so there will be some protection for it, along with it being above the frame rail and skidplate.

So this is the area i would like to mainly protect more:

Image

As i have already Mike´s oil pan protection there is no need for the black skid plate above.

Image

But i would like to have some more protection for the frame, the rust comes from permanent scratching the frame.
I´ll paint the frame with some anti rust primer soon but won´t do it again and again after scratching the frame again.
So hopefully you have some good ideas.

@Mike You know i have to built the radiator skid, but the idea is now to make all protection skids together. So i am proud that my TB could wear the protection (mainly your ideas) from you. Maybe we could do the same business like with the radiator skid.. but we have to PM therefore later..
