folding hitch mounted spare tire mount

Well it has come to this. I stepped up to a set of treadwrights and needed a place for a fullsize spare. So I started with a simple hitch extension.

Welded in two plate sections and used 2x2 stock to build the arm for the tire mount.

Getting the angle for the set back and to match the lines of the window was a little tough. Please no comments on the welds, I'm still learning.

I was also able to weld in a nut for a place to attach my flag.

Ah, I was wondering why you put that strange offset in there. Though I think a T might have been simpler.

You may have to run a ground strap from the folding part of the carrier to the frame, or at least the hitch, to get a low (and consistant) SWR on your radio.

Oh, it was drwfaulk that said antenna, and he said that he was also able to put a nut for a flag on it, so I thought the flag nut was on the other side that I couldn't see, or something.

I will agree, though, that it is a good spot for an antenna. But as you said, he'd have to run a ground strap to it.

I ran my antenna off my tire carrier for a time. It was terrible. My reception was incredibly directional.

I needed to put a mast and flag, St Joe's State Park in MO requires it for any ORV to be on the property.
