Got 1 of those canopy tents? May help a little, but not much. Like $90 for a 10'x10'

I have a tarp and the corner parking spot next to a chain link fence worst case scenario.

if you guys do a trans fluid filter change you might want to include an aluminum 1-2 shift accumulator piston. they are cheap and really easy to install just drop pan and its 3 bolts that hold the housing in. adjusting my shift kits 1-2 shift harshness this weekend i found my plastic accumulator piston was badly cracked and swapped it with an older one from another trans i had for parts. older 4l60's had the better aluminum pistons then gm switched over to plastic in later years and these plastic ones are cracking and breaking alot it seems from reading about this. you can get them off e bay for about 25 bucks. also goodyear gator back serpentine belts, replaced my worn out one and its quieter and smoother. if i had to stomp on the gas before my 1-2 shift would skreech the belt, not this one. it has a nice grippy compound.

Anton, was the screech right as it shifted? If so, Ive had the same noise and have never been able to figure out what it was. So is it the piston that makes the noise or the serpentine belt?

I'm putting in the transgo shift kit next weekend. I'll try to take pictures. I'm a bit nervous myself, but I figure if Jimbo down at AAMCO can do it, why can't I?

Throwing the shift kit in because it apparently helps with a TCC flutter that I've been experiencing.

yea the serpentine belt. it only would do it if i had to really get on the gas from 1st to 2nd. and james you shouldnt have any problems with the kit but i would leave out the spacers in the 1 2 accumulator piston. you can put in 3 for crispness and i put in 2 for a happy medium and it really shifted hard. like spill your coffee everytime it shifts from 1st to 2nd hard,so i took them out and it shifts very strong still but not extreme. the guys at transgo are really cool to deal with also. have fun! and yea have at it with those pics james i suck at documenting this stuff

Hey, James. Is this the kit that you got?

Image

Thats alot of little pieces... not as bad as the reprogramming kit, but still not comforting.

Same kit number "SK 4L60E", but the store pictured an orange box, not blue: http://www.northernautoparts.com/Produc ... elId=27869

Here's what I'm getting myself into:

Oh, and thanks for the feedback on the 1-2 spacer Mike.

Hmm.... The descriptions or symptoms listed sound all too familiar. I get the random 1-2 bump or double bump during the summer months. I might have to look into this if this summer feels worse and my extended warranty runs out.

I received my kit today and started looking through the manual. Man, it was seriously lacking some detail.

Luckily I found this nice video on the transgo site (under the HD-2 kit page but applies to the SK kit) that helps fill in the blanks. http://transgoonline.com/4L60E_HD2Video.html

Video plus directions, I feel much more secure about tearing into the trans.

Did the rebuild on Sunday, took about 9 hours total (I tend to be slow and methodical), but it wasn't too bad.

Worst part was getting the darn pressure regulator valve back in. The Transgo video makes that look MUCH easier than it is.

I took a few pictures (it won't be a step-by-step). I'll post a small writeup with some pointers when I have time.

So I was jump starting my lawn mower yesterday and I just happen to have the wheels on my TB fully turned where I had turned around to jump the mower and I look over and see to boot on my drivers CV is busted, I check the inner and it's busted, I turn the wheels the other way to check out the pass side......Not busted but has that cracked and ready to split look. So I'm thinking replace both this week and replace boots on the good one and maybe the bad one too if it's not messed up too bad and keep them for trail spares. While I'm under there replace the upper and lower balljoints and flip the UCA's. Was also debating on getting the 2500HD tie-rods but I don't wheel hard enough to brake the stock ones yet, maybe when it's no longer my DD. :mechanic:
I hope my bonus is good this year

Upper, and lower control arms are replaced, upper ball joint, front shocks, lift and drivers side sway bar link all replaced/installed. Rear shocks SHOULD be here tomorrow. And the passenger side sway bar end needs to be cut off so I can install the new one.
