Sure is... Sounded like he was doing a "rhino" theme, and wanted the "horn" or something... I told him I thought it looked better with just the brush guard, and he said go ahead and do both, because he has the tools to cut it off, but does not have the tools to weld one on, if he wanted one... OK, no problem...

Am I missing something? Small stingers can be light mounting hoops, in which case they would be better called small light mounting hoops. Large, functional stingers are (as I understand the idea) to change the nature of an endover crash, and give the vehicle some side force to turn it into a roll that's more survivable for the occupants. More functional on something like a prerunner pickup, with very light back ends that might otherwise flip forward.

This sort of design is just added weight for no purpose, except as a stylish looking brush guard:



I don't see how this one could help in an endo, although it's the right geometry, just weak:

Fwiw... I don't consider my bumper currently as a stinger.

Bill you are basically correct. There are few "stinger" bumpers built correctly to accomplish the intended goal. I liked mine for spotting trees and turning in tight situations though. If the stinger was closer than 12the in from a tree I wouldn't make the turn. Came in really handy sometimes but was not functional for rollover protection. It was more functional than the stock plastic or impact bar though.

First it was easier to have Mike put all together in one location at one time. Basically, one man - one job kinda thing.

2nd it looked better in my head and pictures don't do much justice. So I asked Mike after he mocked it up on Kyles truck to just ship it and I'd deal with it later.

Since yesterday was the first time the bumper has really been on the truck I am evaluating it and will see how it goes.

I understand the difference between the intended and actual use for a stinger. And since the little one Mike welded on would better fit a light array then arrest an end-over roll perhaps I should have used a better naming convection than "stinger". I had adopted this vernacular from conversations with Kyle and Mike when we were discussing it's addition to the bumper.

However, I will change the wording in my build thread and continue to evaluate and plan an appropriate use, form or function for my overdone lighting fixture.

Dirty anton. I noticed my drag link is further forward than yours. With my crossmember cut out. That must be why I don't have oil filter issues.

yea your right, i guess it was a matter of an inch or so were i mounted the steer box on the frame

Went and picked up some 3/16 steel and cut out an oil pan skid plate. First time I worked with anything this thick... assumed it wouldn't warp when welded because it was good and thick. Ended up pounding on it with a 5lb sledge to straighten it out. Guess you always gotta space out the ole welds. It bolts on and looks like a skid plate.

Radiator skid next... I'm going to have to weld each piece since I can't bend 3/16... I'll be be sure to keep the heat to a minimum.

It shouldn't be NEARLY as bad on the radiator skid, because you're welding pieces together that are at different angles, so you don't get the pulling like you do when you're welding something flat onto the middle of something flat... If you've got any specific design questions on the rad skid, shoot me a PM...

very soon,very soon my friend. since all the good wheelin spots are an hour and a half to 2 hours from me (and will be driving truck there) im working out as many kinks and being prepared for the worse case scenario's as possible.off road places around me are illegal or have closed up over the years. on my property there are some hills i have bin working out the 4 wheel drive system on but not picture worthy really. just about ready tho.

Bill, do you have replacement reverse lights, or are you not using any? Just realized that since you don't have the stock rear bumper cover, you lost that mounting area for them. Did you mount them elsewhere?
