Cutting for tires with lift

Im considering just going up to 33's with my marks deluxe lift and 87 or 88 spring/z71 springs. I understand there will be cutting needed. I searched and had a hard time finding pictures of what has to all be cut exactly and how much. I know people are running a 32" tire and some have rubbing so dont.

I should be lifted shortly after the 1st (ordering final items the first) and running some used 265/75/16 tires i picked up to get me rolling. I read that 87's were on indefinite backorder as well. Anyone heard an update on that? Figures that is 1 of the items I planned on ordering next friday.

i didn't need to cut anything on my 05 ext. a little hammering in the front of the rear wheel wells was all that was needed.

oh, and that was just with the lift and i ran 285/70r17's.

Only way to know is to do. Get what you want and then do what you must to make it fit. Some people have had to cut for 32" tires, others haven't had to for 33" tires.

I'm wondering about what part the spacers play in this; with 32's and 1.25" spacers I have the most minor rubbing in the world, a light touch now and then, no adjustments needed. Looking at the space I have, and imagining the wheel out another 1/4 or 1/2", I think you'd have to make some fairly serious adjustments. (In the front, that is, with the steering at full lock.) Sometimes less is more?

Thanks guys. Ill definitely look up roadies youtube videos. gonna see if a buddy of mine with an FJ lifted on 33's will come over so we can swap 2 of his tires onto mine and try to do what cutting or hammering needs to be done so it will be ready for the new tires. I had my spacers changed to a 6x5.5 so his rims will bolt right up.

just keep in mind your backspacing on your rims might be different than his so it still might not be an exact match unless you have rims like his.

Moving the outside edge of the tire out by making it wider, less backspacing on the rims, or using spacers, all contributes to the great unknown variable of "will I have to cut fender sheet metal?"

yeah for some reason didnt think about that. He is running stock FJ 17's I believe are 4.5" backspace and ill be running crager soft 8's with a 5" Backspace. Close, so if I cut to them i may just need to cut a tad more.

also if he is running 7 inches wide vs you running 8 inches wide, it all has some effect.
I would still mount it up and see what you have. It should give you some idea.

Found the youtube vid. Was hoping for more detail on what all had to be cut but guess it will be trial and error here lol. Ordered everything but my front springs...think you all bought them up lol. Waiting to hear back on availability of 88's since all the 87's seem to be gone. Damn holiday weekend. Most everything else I was missing will be here early next week.
