another body lift/steering extension question

BDS, ReadyLift, Smaxx... You name it, we know about it here.

so i know how hard and almost impossible it is to come across them for body lifts. but i was looking and something came to my attention, i tried search but didn't get far so here it is.......
i guess you can't get the extensions separate from zone and i know markmc can't really do them anymore either. however i noticed that zone does sell one for the s10 separate! my question is, is this something that can work instead of trying to fab one yourself? pictures or hard to tell but look similar.

normal extension

It is possible, but you can't tell based on pics alone. Looks similar to the one I made for temporary use, as it would slide inside the shaft and not over. If you do a little more research and find out the s10 dimensions, I'm sure you will find your answer.

On a side note.... I don't know if this is safe or if it applies to everyone, but I found it to be true with my vehicle. When I took the body lift off and moved the steering shaft back down to the rack, I was able to fully insert it and reinstall the bolt. Made me wonder if it is even necessary to use an extension with a 2" lift. I had no issues turning the wheel. If anyone tries this, it was not my idea. I don't want to be blamed for anything broken or anyone harmed. Looked to me that there was enough forgiveness in the shaft to get away with it.

How much is just the steering extension? May be worth it to just try and see if it works?

But Bot, that is interesting about maybe not having to use the extension. Body lifts could be done on the cheap (homemade) if so.

I realy want the extra wheel well room but don't want to deal with the hassel right now of relocating my bumper and sliders.

the extension is only like 20 bucks from zone. i talked to mark and he said it most likely wouildn work as our steering shafts are an oddbll size but still wondering if could be modified a little.
and on the option of not using the extension..... i know not the same but my 01 zr2 blazer had a body lift with no steering extension and work out fine. but whether or not the TB will be ok im not sure

I want to test this a little more, as I am almost 100% that there is enough slack in the shaft to be without the extension with 2" of lift. It has now been proven that the extension is unnecessary for 1", but I want to know for sure about the 2" compatibility. Like I said, it extended fully and bolted in, and I was able to turn lock to lock with normal resistance. I am going to be reinstalling 2" blocks in the near future, so hopefully I will prove this as a viable option and open up a new door for budget body lifts. I have everything else planned out for the lift and it all comes in under $100 as long as the shaft is not an issue.

I am going to bite the bullet and order the S10 shift extension this weekend. It's only $20 bucks and if it works, we are still saving a lot of time and cash.

I asked Zone when I wanted to do a 2", they said they would sell me just the extension...

When I cut out the front end, Ill pull apart the shaft to see how much is really inside. Then we will all know for sure.

I didnt use one on my 1" lift...

the steering may get a little tight with no extension with 2 inch blocks. i wish i could have gotten a 3 inch split type movable steering extension for the 3 inch body lift. because of the increased angle of the shaft the steering got a lot tighter for a while with the 2 inch steering extension.but before with it on the 2 inch body lift the steering felt ok though.

Zone told me it was available as part of the kit only, but that was months ago. Perhaps things have changed. I would love to get just the extension so I can just do the 3" and be done with it. I would just hate to buy an entire kit when all I am going to need are the blocks/bolts and steering extension. And I do not feel like making another version of my redneck extension like I did before.

Anyone wishing to go a little more permanent with the mod could always buy the 17mm DD blank shaft, cut it to size and drill it, and then weld it to the existing shaft.

Haven't been on in a while. Is high voltage up and running with the body lifts yet?
Let us know how you make out with the extension, i put my body lift on hold for a little because i was off work for a little. Maybe turned out for the better now reading this lol.

From what I understand, voltage is still searching for a reliable source to produce the rear bumper relocation brackets and the steering extensions. I've found a way around the rear bumper relocation. As long as there is enough slip in the steering shaft, the 2" body lift will be getting a lot less expensive.
