New rims question

Need new shoes? This is the place to discuss.

by BSalty » Fri Oct 22, 2010 11:40 pm

I received my new wheel adapters from Mark today (Thanks dude!) So I need a new 5.5 pattern rim. I also ordered Marks lift kit and I am using Z71 springs. And I got the BDS shocks. (you guys are bad influences :raspberry: ) So much for never modding the truck. :mechanic:

I found some by AR rims for $400 shipped. http://www.4wheelparts.com/Wheels/Ameri ... fPAR236883

But with only a 4.5" backspace plus the 1.5" adapter spacing I'm afraid they are going to stick WAY out of the fenders. The plan is around a 32-33" tire.

I have poured over all the build pages but most of you havent listed your backspacing. Anyone have some pics of a similar set up?

Edit: I can't spell.

:coffee:

The wheels look fine as for the 5x5.5 lug as long as the spacers are 5x5 to the hub and 5x5.5 to the wheels. As to the spacing, it has been discussed in depth in the threads and can be found. IIRC what you've stated should be fine. I like the wheels to protrude a little past the fenders. Some people here don't but they're more into the looks rather than the wheelability and driving performance.

yeah I have been reading a lot of them, but I havent seen the same or similar backspacing listed on anything with pictures. I did get the "Fred" conversion adapters to 5.5" so I could run the standard chev 1/2 ton rims. :woot:

Sounds good. The 4.5 backspace and 1.5 spacer may cause several issues though. Many I'm sure you've thought of or read.

Wheel bearings become an issue due to stress angles.

Trimming may be involved even though you're at only a 32" tire.

And so on...

But as far as I know you'd be the first with that set up. If I spent the money and that's what I had I'd run with it and than start a thread.

As a side note:

One of the senior members here has also considered this set up.

An extra 1.5" would put your wheel where, in relation to the fenders?

About 2" past the fender. I'm already illegal for the part of the law that says the tire must be covered to the centerline of the axle.

CBRguy,

That should tell you where you would be also. How do the laws read in Utah on this stance? Maybe you should find out first rather than later.

Those would look badass. Put you out about 2" past the fender, as the others have stated. The rims I picked up today are going to sit me 2.5" past. I plan on getting some flares in the spring, just hoping the policia will leave me alone until then. I say if you like the look, go for it. Most cops will only bother you if they are looking for something to do. And if you are afraid of trimming to make it fit... well you're on your own with that battle.

Brendan is running 15x10 with3.75" back spacing and 1.5" spacers... His stick out a bit and required a decent amount of trimming...

They *almost* look silly. Hardtrailz is running 17x9 with 3.75" backspacing and 305/65/17 tires. He had a bit of trimming, too. :fro:

If you look at the pictures of Brendan's tires, they stick out nearly half of the tires width past the fenders.

He needs some flares, stat. :finger:

Holy Shikees!!! Looked at Brendans thread. :awesome:

That looks sweet but too far out for what I want. I have no problem with doing some trimming now that I have committed to mod the truck. But yeah I might have to keep looking for some different rims as I have not purchased them yet, just found them at that price and I liked the look of them. The law is they can't stick out past the fenders in Utah. But an inch or so past they don't hassle you. Thats about as far as I would want to go anyhow.

Thanks thats exactly what I needed. I could do the math to but I needed a visual.

Sorry to awaken an old thread but i just got back on - havnt been here in a while

Let me just make something clear, the only reason i have my spacing is because i wanted to run a 15" rim. If you wanted to run a larger rim you wont have the same spacing issues. I have a 15x8 rims but i found this set on craigslist for a steal so i jumped on them. Mine are a 10 wide with 3.75BS + 1.5" spacers so that gives me 2.25 BS on a 10 wide, hense why theyre monsters. However, in my defense these pics are exagerrating the spacing. Yes, they are wide but these pics make it look alot worse than it really is
