Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

Wow!

Trailblazer and Envoy related, but not off-road related...

by jrivs4x4tb » Fri Aug 29, 2014 9:57 pm

So today I'm driving nothing out of the usual... Hear a knocking gets faster with Rpms... Pull into AutoZone... Check oil... Good.. Check exterior of engine...good ... Check tranny ... Good... Go to start up .. same knocking noise then bam engine grinds to a halt and seizes up... It threw a crank bearing and a rod bearing at the same time.... Wow .. just wow .. no words to express how angry I am right now

So what else could sound like that and cause the engine so seem seized? Water pump? Ac pump? Pulley? Oil pump?

Anything driven by the serpentine belt isn't a suspect. But the cams are driven by a chain, so they could have clogged oil passages. But you already said it's a crank and rod bearing. How old was the oil? How many miles total? Not much we can do to advise except hope you have a maintenance fund to tap. Good luck!

I have a full mechanical insurance policy So I'm only paying the 100$ down payment, and I literally just changed the oil.. to me it sounds like a bearing went out but there are other things that could have happened.. and if something that is driven by the belt is seized then to me it sounds like it could prevent the engine from turning over

Think about it, the belt will slip before it seizes up the crank. It's a piece of non nubbed rubber. Heck, even if it did have infinite amount of friction, it would snap before it seized the crank.

If the engine seized, would you really want to settle for anything short of pulling the engine and inspecting everything?

Nice to see someone else from Colorado here. It's been lonely in this neck of the woods...

I actually bought my TB in Co. Springs. Took awhile to find just what I was looking for. Had to make several trips back due to a bad transmission but finally got it all worked out.

So I'm getting a certified refurbrished engine from Chevy. Could it be considered starting at 0 miles haha? Seeing as all the main part are new. Pistons, sleeves, rods, all bearings, piston , arms, cams and camshaft

Nice, what did that run you? Definitely worth marking your oil, coolant, and maybe the coil packs as replaced.

Not sure yet the shop is doing all the work and I'll find out the price when I pick it up, the warranty pays for all of it so I'm glad I got the warranty
