Sounds good to me, seeing as how I've never been out there... Latrine digging isn't a prob for me, and I actually prefer an unorganized campground. So we're going to meet in Hawk Canyon, or do we want to meetup in town first? It sounds like whether Oreg takes his TB or not, I'll probably meet up with him before we head down, so we could just head out to the Canyon if you can find me directions.

Here's some detail for Hawk Canyon off of 78. We'll figure how to meet up after we hear from Johnny.

You know... if he can't bring his TB, we could always find him a rental TB and slap on a Liftmeister lift really quickly :poke: :mechanic: :flex dirty:

I'd be interested in checking out the 'recently' de-ballz-ed Coyote Canyon along with one of the 'drop offs'. Can we fit through Pinyon, I forget (don't think we can).

Anybody with 4WD, 31's and no front bumper cover can do Coyote Canyon now. Was on my list. Rockhouse and Clark Dry Lake, then out to Calcite Mine Trail. From Hawk Canyon, definitely the Borrego Mountain Dropoff to the Slot for a short hike, then down to the main wash. Wednesday I thought pavement to Canyon Sin Nombre and the Diablo Dropoff (where you and I both got stuck on the runout area wash) then FIsh Creek to Sandstone Canyon. You can no longer drive all the way into the end of Sandstone like we did previously.

Pretty much all depends on how early the LA folks can arrive.

Until we're ready for a lot of sheet metal damage, we're still too wide for Pinyon Squeeze. But a Tundra made it with a lot of carnage, so in a year or two I'll go for that.

I'm hoping to get there at or before sunrise on Tuesday. Of course, all is up to Jeff. Hell, driving in the wee hours of the morning is preferable due to traffic anyways.

FRS/GMRS is the fall-back plan, yes. I have three I can loan out for anybody who doesn't have one.

Been using CH6, Code6 for an initial meet-up frequency, and moving to another channel if we see a lot of interference.

I've got two Talkabout FRS radios... no GMRS on them though. I'll bring them anyways if my dad can find them.

Even old FRS are fine. Channel 6 is in the regime that they cover.

Check craigslist for a cb. There are some local for $25 w/ antenna. This should be considered required equipment for any trail rides, no matter where you are going.

Ok, So its official... the wife and inlaws are informed that I will be gone for Tuesday and Wednesday :friday: :excited:

As far as driving, I'm a simple guy form OREGON.. it was a big deal when our downtown street went from 2 to 3 lanes.. Heck I remember when we got McDonnalds and Wal-Mart finally came! And have a bunch of family still alive that remembers when allot of the streets were dirt. So the highways and crazyness you guys have down there gets me all confused! I will have a simple GPS But I would love it if I could follow somebody :drive: !!

I will also have limited spacer for :camping: gear!! But I have a feeling that won't be much of a problem with the Rodie crusing with us!! How's the weather gonna be? Should I bring a tent or will it be warm enough I can sleep under the stars?

I'm stoked for the desert! :flex dirty: :camping: :friday: ! SO who all is going??

So far, it just looks like you, me, Roadie, and teebes. NickNorie is going to be joining us during the day. You're perfectly welcome to follow me down, and I'll have the FRS so I can let you know where to go. I'll have plenty of space for gear, so we can share the load if necessary. If you'll be in Thousand Oaks, I can cruise up there, we can grab some coffee, then head down. Do you have a preference on when to leave? I'd rather we leave pretty early (3-4AM) so we can miss all the morning traffic and have plenty of time for wheeling.

As far as weather, I'll let roadie have the final answer on this, but Borrego Springs is showing lows of around the low 40s. I know I'll be bringing a tent, and it can sleep 4 in a pinch (tent says 5-6) so you don't have to if you don't want to. Sleeping bag is a must though. And I haven't camped in the desert, so I don't know, but I usually prefer a tent to keep out the bugs, snakes, and especially the mosquitoes.

-teebes: Normally I'd just buy a cheap CB, but I'm probably getting one with antenna for Christmas, and wouldn't want to offend anyone. If there's an issue, I can pick up a handheld perhaps, but if I can get by with FRS for this trip, I'd rather do that.

Sweet.. I don't mind leaving early, around 330-400 does sound a little better than 230-300... But I don't know how long all the driving will take so I'll leave the final say up to you!! I'll have plenty of room in the rig for our trip, but getting all my camping gear down south will be the problem, when I have to carry my wifes stuff, along with the two kiddo's and gear. I'll have plenty fo room for the sleeping stuff, but not much kitchen stuff, or the usual recovery stuff I like to carry. But I'm sure the Recovery gear and kitchen stuff will be well taken care of by Roadie and Teebes.... I've seen the amount of stuff Roadie crams in his rig :awesome: .

I don't have the G80, so there could be pulling needed!! Though I'm pretty good a picking a line :drive:

Roadie: I have some Miss-alignment spacers in today, I'll put the shock together tonight!

Very cool! I also have a big tent, and spare sleeping bags and air mattresses. No skeeters, but plenty of sand fleas, kangaroo rats, and curious ants. The scorpions tend to live in the heights of palm trees and not roam around much if you're not near palms. Bring layers, because the highs will be 80-85 typically. Recommend bringing your own pillow and flashlights. I have all the rest of the camping and cooking stuff for a crowd. Teebes has the trailer of course, with extra propane. Firewood or pressed sawdust logs (better) is also appreciated.
