Trailblazer and Envoy related, but not off-road related...

I grab a welding glove and wear it while doing this. It helps with the shocks... and the headers.
I own too many vehicles now. Let's leave it at that.

Well Anyway, i concluded that cylinder #8 isn't firing. Used a plug wire checker to see if it it getting a spark. It is. Switched out the plug with a new one i had laying around, still not firing. Pulled the spark plug and put my finger over the hole with the truck running, (i wore a glove) and the compression wasn't that great. A good amount of air was coming out but it wasn't pushing my finger off the hole, not even a little bit. Took the valve cover off, and my neighbor is going to help me mess with the valve adjustment tonight. If that doesn't work, that leaves the injector.

how would the injector affect compression? I'm not a big mechanic or anything and I can see valves, rings etc affecting compression but don't understand how the injector would affect it.
I'd drop by HF and pick up a compression gauge (or borrow one) to get a better idea.

x2 on the compression gauge. It's impossible to get a "good" or "bad" reading with your finger.

A bad injector could be the cause of a dead cylinder though, and given what you'e already tested, is likely.
I own too many vehicles now. Let's leave it at that.

Did test with compression checker, seems that all cylinders are close too each other. Ran out of time before TECORE. Pretty much have it down to injector, but still need to confirm that. Neighbor says if you spray starting fluid or carb cleaner in the intake while it runs, and the miss gets better, its a fuel delivery issue.

I can't recall but if you put in new plugs with the swap, I would expect that one might look different than the others.
If the compression is good and the timing is good seems like it has to be the injector.

I was offroading with a group saturday and on the way there It was Missin like MAD. Here are the conditions 1200-1500rpm with a light load(Uphill) and especially going up a hill or under light acceleration in the 1200-1500rpm range. It does miss at other times, namely when accelerating lightly increasing the rpms, but once I get it above 2000rpms it goes away. Exhaust has a hot smell to it and it realy dosn't smell right. Engine seems to cut out when it reaces the 1500rpms and falls to 1300rpm and the cab goes DEAD quite to the point I can't even hear the engine run.

Now city driving is totally fine no miss what ever. Even while I was on the trails It never missed once. It just seems to do it under the conditions and when the engine is been run for 15+ minutes. When it misses its sputtering then a mild jerk after the sputtering. The sputtering is hard to describe.

Thoughts? No codes have shown up. Going to go have a shop see what and or if a cylinder is missin.

What does your exhaust smell like? I feel like it is your cat clogging up. Seems the symptoms are about right. Also, you will experience more heat from the exhaust system from a clogged cat

Truck is fixed. Turns out cylinder #8 valves were too tight. I loosened them about an 1/8th turn and the truck runs normal now. I went and got fresh gas, put a bottle of injector cleaner in it for shits and giggles, and drove it around for a bit. Drives completely normal and no codes on my scan gauge.

That's what it was for me a few months ago. Diagnosis... front diff. Unfortunately, the truck has been up for nearly two months, with very little progress. I guess that's the downside of 70 hour weeks. That damn front diff is a pain in the ass to get out!!!!

It's strange to hear, our front diff has seemed to be fairly stout for its size.

They are out there but can still be a bit pricey compared to the older ones.
