Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

What did you do to your GMT today?

Trailblazer and Envoy related, but not off-road related...

I wish I could. I topped out my suspension with the Radflo already. haha. I'm still happy with my 3.5" adjustment though. I could bring the rear up a little, but it sits pretty darn level as it is.

Long run, I'm thinking softer rear springs with air bag assist. That way it will ride softer but when I need it, I can pull the heavy trailers without my bumper dragging on the ground.

As with most things on my Rig, it seems like my front wheel bearings are fused to the knuckle. Anyone have any tips for getting the hub off the CV Axle.

Block of wood and big hammer.

x2, I just left the nut on a couple threads and hit it with a 4lb lump hammer. A block of wood seems more like a safer way about it.

I don't know if you have one laying around, but I used a three arm puller on mine. I'm sure you're already thinking of this, but put a little grease on the splines to prevent this from happening again.

Penetrating lube, lots of it, and you won't get the cv out with the hub bolts loosened up. Attach it back into the knuckle, and tap the end of the CV with a standard hammer, it takes a few whacks. I normally just use the hammer directly on the end of the CV, I haven't deformed any threads yet, but there's always the chance. The 3 arm puller sounded like a good option though, if you have one.

As for the ribs in the tie rod ends, I think its just decoration, nothing more. It wouldn't provide any extra strength.

Bolt it back onto the arm and directly hit the outer axle end with a BFH!

Reading that again, your words don't match the picture. I'm assuming that you meant that your CV shaft is fused to your hub? Looks like your hub is free of the knuckle in that picture.

If your hub is fused in the knuckle, get the CV out of the hub first, then thread in your 3 mounting bolts a good bit, and hit their heads with a hammer to rock the hub out of the knuckle.

Yes, I'm probably mixing up my terms. I'm used to whats being referenced as the knuckle being the spindle on RWD vehicles.

Ok, so family visits interrupted me yesterday. I got the hubs on both sides separated from the knuckle, but the CV axles are still attached to the back of the hubs. I was referencing the great write up on replacing your hubs here on ORTB.

So I'm assuming I should thread the hub back into the knuckle and tap on the end of the CV axle, then remove the hub.

Yes, I've had a few trailblazers have the same problem you have, it doesn't seem to be that uncommon. I've always left the hub tightened down, threaded the CV axle nut on so it's about level with the end of the threads on the CV axle, then smack the shit out of it with a small sledge, sometimes it takes a few hits.
When I reinstall I've made it a habit to put anti seize or grease on the splines of the CV, never had a problem with the same vehicle twice as long as I do that.

Thanks guys, got it off. Just took some elbow grease. I bought a seal to fix that leak I had on the front diff, so I guess I'm just going to get into a full front on rebuild while I'm hear. Maybe I'll pull the front diff and re-gear it, lol.

Yukon 4.56 gears are on their way. Maybe I can slap together a few articles about fixing some of this stuff that are a little better written than my brake swap article so I have something useful to offer the community besides my glorious opinions, lol.
