Cardone select cv half shaft

Something not working right?

by Mooseknuckle » Wed Nov 02, 2011 1:22 am

Has anyone else had issues with Cardone select cv half shafts? This is gonna be the third install on driver side. I have only had the second one for two weeks and the boot ripped, I have not gone off road for a while now. The angle on the driver side is a bit more than that of the oem on the passenger side. Not sure what the deal is unless it's just my good luck kickin in again..

The supposedly better neoprene boots on aftermarket shafts have been nothing but a headache for me too. I have my old OEM ones still and plan on putting them on my aftermarket shafts someday.

For now I simply cleaned up the outsides of the boots and duct taped them. It's hokey looking and doesn't seal perfectly, but it gets the job done.

The boot seems to be of stronger material but the complete length of the shaft compared to oem is about an inch and a half to tow inches longer(I think) not sure if that is an issue. Also there are others that are sold by Rock Auto: APWI part # GM8831, EMPI part# 801520 and AUP part# 1445n,then of course there is the A-1 Cardone reman. I am wondering if anyone has tried these at all. All I believe have the neoprene boots.

Pictures of the boot and the angle of the cardone select. What is the exact length of the oem shaft 27.7?

That does look ugly Moose.

I have remanufactured shafts from Autozone and haven't had any problems. Boot seems to lie properly, and haven't broken in at least 20k miles.

I'm not having problems with any of my cardones. There's a slip joint in the inner boot, so the length is variable.

Yea its a big ole mess. At least it's covered under warranty so it's not a total loss. I can also whip these out pretty quick having done them twice before. Thanks guys.

Been that way on my pickup for around 4-5 years, still going strong with no problems. I did use the black gorilla tape though, for a little classier look! :D

I'm running them with no problems. Any chance you didn't get the shaft to snap in the diff all the way. I remember when doing mine, it was tough getting it that last inch, and it would cause the extra angle your seeing..

Yes i know what your talking about the first time Mario and I did it so I'm sure there was a snap cause Mario is the champ. The second time I popped it in it made a noise that sounded like it snapped into place. My question is the oem length is 27.5 if the cardones are 30.0 couldn't that be a culprit for the angle regardless of the variable? i spoke with an auto supply near me and they have an A-1 Cardone that he says is new for 61.00 so I will go that route cause rock auto takes a while to get here.

Im needing to replace mine as well it seems. Getting a clunking on take off, turning and on steep incline. Was looking at rock auto and their price seems really nice for the Cardone's. Whats the avg shipping time you guys have with them? Ive never ordered from them.
