Power Steering help

Something not working right?

by dvanbramer88 » Sat Mar 23, 2013 10:28 am

I pulled my steering gear box to change the pitman arm, and when I got it back together and started the truck, the steering wheel moves back and forth on its own. I stopped the truck, topped off the fluid reservoir again and it kept doing it. I sat in the driveway idling turning the wheel lock to lock and it kept doing it after a few minutes. The lines are not switched. I checked that and they will only go one way.

Basically, if the wheel was straight it wouldn't move itself, but if I started it in one direction or the other it would keeping going by itself until it hit lock.

Does the system just need more time to purge itself?

Resolved. It takes a lot longer than you'd expect for the system to purge itself and start acting normal.
