Constant Water in the Air Pump

Something not working right?

by bdp1978 » Tue Jan 24, 2012 11:16 am

So I replaced my air pump about 2 months ago. It was completely full of water when it failed. I drove w/o a pump for about a week and drained the hoses of water twice. Which seemed excessive. When I put in the new pump I made a drain hole in it and in the inlet hose for any water to escape that would accumulate.

Well I had noticed a small puddle under the truck every now and then and figured the drainage was working properly. Today while getting gas I left the truck running and noticed that the hose drain is consistently dripping. The below puddle formed in the time it took me to pump in 6 gallons. Any ideas on what is causing such a large amount of water to be in my system???

I just pulled some info that states our trucks produce 1 gallon of water for every 7 gallons of gas burned. I'm not coding but I would assume that means my check valve is not functioning properly and condensation is bypassing the exhaust and entering the air system? My check valve was functioning properly when I replaced the Air Pump.

If your check valve wasn't operating properly, you would have exhaust coming out of your drain hole, right?

I would think so. The water appears to be mainly draining from the hole I put into the intake hose and I have no exhaust smell. Airbox and top of the hose always appear dry when I check.

Just replaced the Air Pump on a friends '07 and it was bone dry when we pulled it.

Pull off your exhaust side hose and see if you're getting exhaust or any airflow. If not, pull off both hoses and cap them. Then you'll at least determine where the water is coming from, and narrow your search.

What James said. I'd suspect the check valve isn't working properly. You can check it fairly easily.
