Removing Rear License Plate Pocket?

I need to wire up a license plate light since I relocated it. I have that rear license plate pocket almost out so I can do it the only thing holding me back is the rear latch handle is part of that pocket that gets removed and I cant seem to find a way to disconnect it.

Looking at a guide from the other site I figured out how to get things apart this far. I took out the 5 bolts but I cant get the latch to disconnect.

This I think is where it needs to come appart (circled in yellow)



Anyone taken this apart before? How did you disconnect it? I've tried pulling those two pins apart but I really dont want to bend it and screw up the latch mechanism or something.

Why are you removing the entire pocket? Just fish a wire through and call it done.

I was looking for a better place to splice into the wiring, it looked like I might have been able to do it closer to the factory bulbs maybe not.
