ABS Light

Something not working right?

by Mooseknuckle » Thu Mar 17, 2011 2:00 am

Well after Mario and myself replaced the cv half shaft the ABS light came on. We removed the sensor to make it easier to work on while replacing the shaft but found out we didnt really need to remove the ABS sensor. I went out into the garage the other day took it all apart again removed some othe the grease we added onto the sensor and put the sensor back in. Still have the light. Someone told me there is a magnet on the end of the sensor and if there isnt the correct amount of spacing it would basically shut the ABS capability off,is this tru? Where might I go from here?

I'd hook up the sensor's harness to a digital voltage meter. "A good wheel speed sensor will generally produce an alternating current (AC) voltage reading of 50 to 700 MV when the wheel is spun by hand at about one revolution per second." If nothing else, this can help you determine exactly which sensor is causing the issue.

Most likely you will have to replace the sensor or the wheel hub.

Ok thank you James. Gonna look at it this weekend ,I'm guessing that it has to be the driver side since that is the side we replaced the cv half shaft on and the only side where the sensor was removed. we were very careful making sure no dirt or anything made its way onto the sensor and very careful putting it back. I will take it apart for a third time take a better look. :?

Did you ever figure out your light? I had a mysterious ABS light come on in a trip out to CT one time. Happened during rain, and my Snap-On Modis told me a common issue is water infestation in

the ABS pump itself. I had a left front wheel bearing going bad, so I replaced it, and never got the ABS light to go away. I tried just about everything short of putting a new pump in the truck, as

for that price the damn light can stay on. Just the other night I had a dream about it, pointed me to the wiring. Got an urge to get the damn light out, went out and pulled the connector that rides

on the frame that connects the hub/sensor to the rest of the system. A blade was broken off inside of it. Hard wired the system and the light went out.

In short, check the connector. Apparantly blades like to break in them.
