Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

just got screwed by shop / opinions on ride quality of lift

BDS, ReadyLift, Smaxx... You name it, we know about it here.

by Blazintrails03 » Tue May 15, 2012 1:41 pm

ok so i was quoted $275 by Trick Trucks in Chantilly, VA to install Marks 2.5" lift kit as well as a set of BDS shocks and Bilstein struts and to align it. Now being that i worked at a shop for 5 years and knowing typical labor rates i knew i could do this myself but i also knew it was a steal so i jumped on it. Dropped my TB off Sunday for an appointment today and they called and said it was going to be almost $500 total because of additional parts. So apparently sitting the .5" top spacer on before install added roughly $100 per side. Now I realize that they found out they screwed up with their quoted and were just trying to get more money out of me

Additionally they tried to tell me it was gonna ride like crap (but for the additional $$ they could still do it  )

So turns out im probably just gonna do it myself like i shouldve in the first place but with what they said about ride i know it cant be that bad. Now i dont know the exact number of my springs but with just the spacer and bilsteins/bds how is the ride quality for the rest of you guys?

It will ride good. Why you would even give merit to the uneducated lying pos shop comments?

They should know how long it takes to install front struts, it takes no more time to do the lift than the front struts.
If they underestimated by that much I'm not sure I want them working on my truck anyway.

well i think what happened was they quoted me $275 with the alignment but it was supposed to be plus the alignment to make it $375. Then it popped up at almost $500. Umm no i will take my keys back now :viking:

You're a poor negotiator. :finger:

When I was going to have the shop install my lift(BDS) they quoted me 300 for everything including alignment. Then after about a month later(and changing lift to Marks 3") and tons of reading I found that I had to flip UCAs and they slapped on 120 bucks so I said I'm gunna wait. Then I found that a couple of people in our church work on their vehicles so I asked and teh said yes.

I'm about 6'1" around 315 I know all about beer and wings haha.

Navigator I'll be in Nags Head this weekend but I'll be out on a boat hopefully pulling out some tuna

I'm just gonna do the work myself just figured the original price of $275 sounding good enough to keep my off my knees with jack stands and a cheap spring compressor

I'll say that I was sketched out when I was installing my lift, simply because I knew anytime you modify your suspension, it is going to change the ride quality in some way.

Additionally, I decided to go with 6-ply tires instead of the regular passenger rated tires.

After everything was installed, I was surprised to find that I enjoy my ride quality post-lift than I did pre-lift.

The point I'm trying to make is that everyone else is different and you wont know how you like it until everything is done

I'm going to have to agree with Midnight, I would much rather have my suspension as post-lift, than pre-lift any day. Seeing how my Envoy is my DD currently and I drive 72 miles to work everyday round trip, I notice my ride-quality quite a lot, and I far prefer the lifted suspension. The only thing that saves me from racking up too many miles on my Envoy (and fuel $$$) is that I carpool, so I only drive every other week.

I ended up going to trick trucks in Winchester to get my fronts done and put on with the lift and 89's. They quoted me 250$. Since I neither had the time or equiptment to do it I sucked it up and paid to get it done. They only called me and asked how the spacers went on. That kinda made me a little nervous but they ended up getting it on and charged the same as what they quoted me. Never gave me a hard time at all.
