Front Strut/shock comparison

BDS, ReadyLift, Smaxx... You name it, we know about it here.

When I installed my life last summer I had to cut my stock struts to get the springs off. I plan to rebuild my front end to fix another issue and replace the springs in the near future.

When I unexpectedly had to replace the original struts up front I picked up a pair of these from a local parts store.

Monroe Sensa-Trac Struts

They seemed slightly better to me than the 80,000 mile stock ones I took off.

These new struts have probably 10k miles on them. Would you replace them with a set of Bilstein HD's while your at it?

Are those Bilstein's that much better? enough to justify $140 and replacing functioning "new" struts?

Having never driven a truck with them I don't have much of a basis of comparison of course.

I see no reason to replace new shocks so can have tthe same as everyone else. The difference isnt that huge, i'd imagine. Keep the monroes until they go bad, I say.

MY experience with Sensa-tracs hasn't been great. I put a set on my El Camino about 8 years (lass than 7,000 miles) ago. I got a great deal on a set of used Bilstien HDs on another forum, so I decided to change them out. The Sensa-Tracs were completely dead. There is a night and day difference with the new shocks on. I'm swapping Bilstiens in to all my other cars as sunding allows.

Just my $.02

I'm not sure I would bother either. If they are still charged and aren't leaking oil I would just run them.

I found tire rack to be cheaper than everyone else on the shocks.
