Getting ready to click the button and buy tires. Maxxis XTM Mudders or BFG M/T's (older style) I can get either tire, brand new for about $600.- for a set of 4. Need opinions on witch to get. I know a lot of you are using the new style BFG's but anyone have opinions on the older ones? And anyone running Maxxis, what's your thoughts?

I have the older BFG T/A KMs. I've been very happy. 40k miles with no trouble. Still plenty of life left.

The only down side I have found is the wet traction... not terrible, but not great.

I gather most M/Ts are like that... I'm going to get a middle-of-the-road AT/MT tire for the truck, as I use it off road hauling wood and such, but also in the rain and snow... Something like the Goodyear Duratrac or the Dunlop Rover M/T Maxx Traction...

What size is your spare going to be if it isn't going to be new? Just a vote to make it close to the same size as the others.

I still consider the older bfg mts my favorite tire. Got 60,000 miles out of them andterrific traction in all conditions/situations.

I have had goodyear, bfg, dunlop, swampers, dayton, firestone, and more mud or all terrain tires. Probably 20 sets offroad over the years and until the current set of Pro Comps. Nothing was as good. If these PC last, they will be in contention.
I hate to advocate weird chemicals, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone...but
they've always worked for me.

I've got the older style BFG MTs like JD has as well. I've got 5, so I rotate in a full size spare. I've been VERY pleased with these tires. I have about 20k on them right now and they have PLENTY of life left.

Ah, gotcha... not much is known by TB drivers, but the general consensus seems to be that the bighorns are better on pavement and everywhere else, while the Buckshots are more of a strictly mud tire. Once again, no experience to back this up, just what I've read. Everybody else here seems to be pretty happy with their BFG M/T's and for the price, you can't beat it. I didn't know you could still find them, and had thought of resigning myself to the KM2's when it comes time to switch tires unless I can find Discoverer STT's for a good price.

For my next set, I'm on the fence between the BFG KM2, the Toyo MT (Teebes has them), or the Goodyear Kevlar MTs (Zero has them).

I'll probably have to make another decision matrix.

I'd go with the BFG's, as Philberto said and I have also heard that the Buckshot's are better for just mud, and I have had many friends with the BFG's along with the few here that haven't really had anything bad to say about them. Plus thats a great price for 4 I must say..

When my current tires wear out (hopefully they will last 40k more miles) I'll prob go for the KM2's, they were what I wanted first but the shop couldn't get em at the time and I got a good deal on my Kumho's.

Also James, I also was looking at the Goodyear Kevlar MT's but like my Kumho's they are directional, which unless you have 2 spares or get the tires taken off make it impossible for the 5 tire rotation.. just my .02

I have KM2's in 31". Absolutely love them. Was in 18" of snow at 48psi and they were just eating the snow up, to the point where i had mud on my truck. Not to mention how quiet they are on the road. Again, however, as with all m/ts you will not hve great wet traction. If you dont baby it around corners you get swirly fairly easy. Aside from that, 5-stars

Here's the BFG's I'm looking at. From all the input I've gotten here, I guess I'll go with these.

There are two variants of the BFG MT KM tread.

The one you posted is the standard tread and comes with all sizes except one.

Image

The 255/75/17 tires come with the Rubicon tread. The Rubicon tread is essentially the same, but has a small "J-hook" in the tread.

Sweet deal! :thumleft: What size you get them in? And just wondering why you didn't get a 5th for a full size spare? Since they are rather cheap...
