16" wheels on a truck that came standard with 17" wheels???

Need new shoes? This is the place to discuss.

I've got a 2003 chevy trailblazer LTZ, it came from the factory with the 17" alloy wheels, I'm thinking about getting 6x5 to 6x5.5 spacers and putting stock tahoe 16" wheels on it. But after looking closely at my wheels and the space between the caliper and the inside of the rim, it looks like it have barely anymore than a 1/2" of space at some places. That means that if i put the 16" wheels on they would pretty much be touching the calipers. Am I correct in assuming this? Do the 1.5" wheel spacers make a difference? I know that TB's came with 16" wheels stock but do the one's that came with 17" wheels have a larger disc and caliper diameter than the 16" ones?

Long story short, will 16" wheels fit on my 17" wheeled 2003 TB?

The EXT has larger brakes and you can't fit 17" wheels. I believe the same is true for the V8 (we can have that confirmed by those who know that better), but at least for the I6 you should have no issues fitting 16" wheels.

My Denali definitely has the bigger calipers. I still have my stock 18x8s though, and going to 17x8s soon. I don't see any way there'd be room for 16s.

SWB will fit the 16's just fine. Some 15's have been seen to work, but that's a LOT more dependent on the exact cross-section of the wheel.

Isn't the Denali V8 powered?

Yes, and they aren't seen as much on the trails. I remembered from the OS that John has an I6.

Yeah they're uncommon. IIRC, V8 powered trucks have larger brakes (same size as the EXT?) and won't allow for 16" wheels to be used. Am I correct?

But the OP has an I6
Hence or otherwise, he should have no issues fitting the 16" wheels

I do have the I6 4.2L and I just ordered my wheel spacers 1.5" from discussed in my other thread, and am picking up my 99 tahoe 16" wheels and 245/75R16 tires already mounted for $80 on saturday, hopefully next week or early the following my Z71 springs and markmc 2.5" lift will be here, as I just received my G80 yesterday.....seriously jumping in with both feet on this one

already got my cb mounted, air filter ordered, with plans to hog out the airbox, replace the resonator, and replace the exhaust resonator with a pipe as well.

Just a thing. Did you remember to get the spacers with the right bolt pattern (6x5 to 6x5.5)?

I have 15s that clear. Using them with 1.5" adapters to 6x5.5. Dont currently have them on though, waiting for tires. Rim has a BS of 3.75. My OEM are the 17"

Received my initial measurements from HARDTRAILZ and went from there. They do stick out of the fenders a wee bit though

This was the same question I've been wrestling with in putting together my mod list. I have a '06 LT V8 with 17" wheels. I'll have to measure the rear (and Front) calipers with the wheels off. I was hoping to get a second set of wheels/tires for trail use and didn't know if 16" would fit or not. I'll post my measurments when I'm done.

Ok For my 2006 LT Trailblazer with a V8 and 17 inch Stock aluminum rims

Measurements:
In the front from the center of the hub to the outside edge of the brake caliper approx 7 3/4".
In the rear from the center of the hub to the outside edge of the brake caliper approx 7 1/2" inches

The gap between the inside edge of the rim (mounted) and the outside edge of the brake caliper was less than 1/2" in the front and about 3/4" in the rear.

I don't think the 1.5" wheel spacers will help much, but I don't have them, so I don't know for sure.

Conclusions: I can't use 16" rims on my truck. I'll just look into used 17" TB rims of the same style. I want to get a 5th one for the spare anyways. I don't think I want to go to 18" rims.

Hope this helps someone

Doh. I could've answered your question earlier. Sorry I missed it.

EXTs and V8's have bigger front brakes. You need 17" wheels to accomodate those.

If you really wanted 16" wheels for wheeling you could acquire some I6 SWB front brake brackets and rotors. The calipers are the same. Then you'd clear 16" wheels.

I'll happily trade you. :)
