Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

What size tires?

Need new shoes? This is the place to discuss.

by tiger87 » Tue May 18, 2010 7:03 pm

Hey I'm a new member and just bought a 2006 Trailblazer, 4x4, V8. I have been reading around a lot on here but still need a little help? I was thinking about getting the Ready Lift suspension lift, and wheel spacers. With these mods and my stock wheels what size tire would fit?

SHUN!!!!! :slap:

And we don't know if you have 16" or 17" wheels...

... or if you mind trimming the wheel well liner...

or what tires you're considering.

so I'll say you can have up to 32" tires, providing they aren't too wide for the wheels.

That means you have a 17" rim that is 7" wide so be mindful of that when purchasing tires.

Get spacers and youl be set.

You really need to do some searching, especially since there are multiple threads as well as stickies regarding tire size measurement and requirements

Here is a tire size calculator to help you pick out tire sizes and give you other information about tires. 265/70R17 is a 31.6" to get you started. Like the others have said there are a lot of threads on the site dealing with tire sizes and what it takes to fit them.

Have you read everything here including the Announcements - which is what we call "stickies"?

How about http://jd.offroadtb.com/modifications/index.htm

Welcome, but what kind of offroading do you intend to do? Hard to help advise on lift, tires, and size without knowing your mission.

Do you want to do a LOT of trimming, or minimal trimming.

It seems the standard aim is 32" with a lift and spacers.

If you feel you need a little more clearance, go with 33" tires... but you'll have to trim a lot more.

Width-wise, the narrower you go, the less you'll have to trim.

For reference, your stock tires are 29.5".

Just for the record it is possible to fit a 32" tire without trimming anything. Just get a 2" lift, and a new wheel with a minimum of +24mm offset and you should clear the balljoint too.

Worked for me. but keep in mind every tire is a lil bit different.

And every vehicle is a little bit different. GordinHo and I have the same setup, but he had to trim, I didn't.

I have the same lift as James and Gordinho. Gordinho and I have the half inch shims in the front on top of that. I have 265/70r17 pro comps which is 31.9 and I believe they have 255/75r17. I had some rubbing when in reverse and the wheel at full turn. So I had minor trimming.

could the variation in who needs to trim and who doesnt be attributed to the several different types of springs available???

We should see if there is a pattern in springs used between those who had to trim, and those who didnt. Then add that to the "ultimate will it fit chart".

JD is that chart I helped you set up with the different spring types on the OS on this forum?

Of course... it's in the suspension subforum.

And no, I don't think that it has anything to do with trimming amounts. I think it has everything to do with the location of the LCA. The LCA can be adjusted fore and aft to adjust caster. If someone has less caster than someone else with the same setup, they will have to trim more. So I guess the moral is... when you get your alignment, ask for more caster.
