The key is to wrap it in a plastic bag, and hang it from above, through the handles. Then unscrew the filter, let it drop into the bag, and lower the bag to the ground.

the oil isn't the problem, its pulling the filter that i have a problem with. such a compact space for my fliter wrench

You got to finagle the wrench in there, take your time.. Don't be like me.. And if you get frustrated jack the truck up take the passenger tire off and the filter is right there and you can use the oil filter pliers to get it loose.

I use a nylon strap wrench. Works easy.

I wasn't due for an oil change, but since I had to drop my pan, guess I have to now. I haven't removed the filter, but I did notice that after taking out the sway bar, Yes, I cut out and removed the front sway bar, there appears to be more room to get at the filter. Maybe I was seeing things, but that's how it looked.

It depends on how I feel sometimes I do it by hand and sometimes I give it a half turn- full turn with a wrench

you could use the K&N oil filter with the 6 point on the bottom if you were really heartset on torquing it down. But like JD and kyle, I've never had to use tools on my oil filter. The Fram filter with the grippy surface makes it easy.

That is very good idea James never thought to to that. I hate that part also. But as of late I have be lazy and having my cuz shop change oil on my cars.

after reading on Bob is the oil guy and seeing the filter dissection I vowed to stay far away. Apparently the bypass valve fails regularly and the oil completely bypasses the filter media. Why bother with a filter that has a high probability of not filtering.

knowing me I am the king of over tightening. thats why I went out and got torque wrenches and started looking in the shop manual for everything. I have striped so many bolts back in the day. on a good note though I have gotten really good with a tap and die set
