How to: Remove Front Doors

Summary: How to Remove front Doors
Difficulty: Easy
Estimated Time:15-30 Minutes
Tools: Ratchet and 10mm Socket + Extension

Start by opening your doors all the way. Locate the 4 bolts circled in red. Once you have remove the bolts you now want to unplug the connector. The easy way to do this is to pull the connector off its mount circled in white and then unplug it.

Once that's done you will be able to lift the door straight up and off. Just as an heads up I got an Airbag light when the doors were off and the interior lights stayed on until I shut them off.

To install the doors you will want to seat the door back on its "hinges" which are circled in yellow. There are 2 "hinges" one above the bolt and one below. You can kinda see them in the first picture. This kind of takes 2 people to put the doors back on one to guide the doors into place and one to hold It as the doors are pretty heavy. Once they are seated back on there "hinges" install the bolts.

I have not attempted to remove the rear doors as there is no connector like the front doors have.

The front doors are about 75lbs, the rear are around 50lbs. I took both doors off in 5 minutes with very minimal work. When I put them back on put the bolts in with my Craftsman battery torque wrench so that I can use it to remove them and speed things up even more.

The rear door electrical is real easy to un-hook. Just put a small screw driver on each side of the rubber boot at the body. That will allow the plugs to come out and be unplugged.

I am thinking that there needs to be something there, about a foot up, maybe to the seat height, but I am liking it.

I agree...something about seat height for front and rear doors. I'm leaning toward just some tube doors painted to match would be perfect. Need some steel to cover the front hinge location and it'd look awesome!

A you pull it up near me has on their web site $45 for a door (not sure if you are charged for each item on them). However last I looked they only have two TB 02 & 03. http://www.wilbertsupullit.com/PriceList.aspx

That's a good price there, Car-Part.com showing minimum of $200 and most are around $450, so I can see what Kyle was saying about being too expensive.

For these kind of prices, a guy could buy the materials and make something similar to what's available for a Jeep.

Does anyone think there are difference between model years of the door, far as size, shape and such. Me thinks if one were get one from bone yard to make a half door one would not care about most internals.

As far as I can tell they are all the same assuming you mean trailblazer to trailblazer and envoy to envoy swaps. I've worked on everything from the 2002-2006s
