Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

Nut in frame for lower a-arm bracket..need advice

Trailblazer and Envoy related, but not off-road related...

by Moots1288 » Sun Dec 16, 2012 6:45 pm

So I went to replace the lower control arms on my truck today and I had removed both sides. Got the passenger side done no problem, but when I had moved onto the driver side at first the cast on the brackets need to be reamed but then as I tried to insert the nut it would not spin. After I analyzed it with Jason(v7guy) we figured out that the nut up inside the frame rail was stripped. We talked it over a little and was thinking about running a tap up inside. Does anyone know by any chance what size and pitch that bolt is? And if they have any other ideas besides cutting open the frame and installing a new nut.

Do you have the bold that came out of that nut? You can take to to a parts store and they have the "gauges" for thread sizes.

Yea man I was planning on doing that. Just seeing if someone else had any other ideas.

Not being able to see it in person, If you think it wont be a huge PITA, you might be better off cutting a window through the frame and welding in a new nut and plating over the window. I'd trust Jame's welding. But than again, that could just be more trouble than it's worth especially if you are just looking at an easy re-tap of an old nut.

If you re tap the old nut, Id say use locktite on the bold because the threads on the nut might not be as tight as a new nut.

Damn, why doesn't your steering rack boot fit. Your steering rack is going to explode.
