Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

Wheels, Adaptors, and Back Spacing.

Need new shoes? This is the place to discuss.

Im in need of some opinions. I have some wheels Im looking at getting, but not sure if I should. I really like the Crager Soft 8's, but unforunately they dont come in 6 x 5. They can be found in 6 x 4.5 and 6 x 5.5. So to be able to get the 6 x 5.5, Id have to get wheel spacers. That's going to add an inch and a half. The backspacing on the Soft 8's is 4 inches. I believe factory is 6.5 or 7... Not sure. But thats another 2.5 to 3 inches on each side. So all in all, thats about 4 to 4.5 inches out from where the wheels meet the hub, compared to stock. If Im wrong in the way I'm looking at this, please let me know. Im here to learn all I can. If Im correct, would this put WAAYYYY to much stress on the wheel bearings and axles? Is it a good idea? Or should I just give up on the Cragers all together? I like them because of (a) Price, (b) Theyre black, and (c) Price! I can find 6 x 5 wheels, though styles are limited, but not a lot of styles I like. Plus, they usually dont fall in my budget either. HELP! :wallbash: !!

They'll stick out a good bit but that is up to the individual preference.

I run 1.5 inch spacers with 4.75 BS on a 17x9 inch wheel. I change my wheel bearing about once a year a general maintenance. No extra stress on axles from the wheels, but the lift will put some. Not enough that I would worry about it.

To know how far they will stick out, you would have needed to include the width of what you are thinking of buying.
I hate to advocate weird chemicals, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone...but
they've always worked for me.

Sorry... That would have been good to include. Looking at either 16 x 7's or 16 x 8's.

what tire size are you planning on running?
Anything 285 or wider and you should run 7.5 or 8 inch.
265s should be fine on an 8 inch rim as well.

Right now Im going going to be running 255/70/16's... Insert Mall Crawler jokes here_____. Ive had them for a little while and they still have a ton of life left in them. I wont be getting wheels for awhile, but Id like to have all my ducks in a row, early, for when I do decide to pull the trigger. I dont see myself going to much bigger than a 33" tire. I was mainly worried about the stress to the hubs/axle/bearings from the spacers and back-spacing.

I think each tire can be a little different but on the General Grabber AT2 on tirerack they recommend a rim between 6.5-8.5 wide.
An 8 inch rim should be fine for 255 wide.
For a 285 wide they recommend 7.5-9
