thanks roadie.... i'm cool with it. i'll admit i did pout a little but then realized you were right!
i'm 43 years old and understand the annoying kid thing completely!
i cringe every time i hear a compact car with with a "fart can muffler". not at all what i had in mind for my trailblazer.
i haven't decided on a 40 series flowmaster yet.... they make a 44 series that is much quieter but still offers good flow.
whatever i decide on, it will be an improvement over stock.
with that said.... it's a good thing when a truck, car.... whatever, makes a little noise around this part of the country.
we have an over abundance of whitetail deer. a liitle bit of exhaust "noise" or rumble seems to do a lot better than the ultrasonic
deer deterants they sell at walmart. it's a real problem here. even in town!
it's hilly here too. i live on 3 acres surrounded by farms, so yeh, noise really isn't that much of an issue.

anyway... no harm done. i am glad to find out that this is a serious forum.


oh.... and about the cherry bomb (glass pack) verses a 40 series fm. different sound out of the tailpipe, not really louder, just different.
but they have a lot more interior resonance'. though i have wondered about 2 cherry bombs inline. there is plenty of room, and it's hard to beat the toughness, affordability, and straight-through flow of a cherry bomb. that's worth some serious consideration.

Two inline is a bad idea. Tried that first, then pulled the second off and put a 3" tailpipe in. That bumped my fuel economy up almost 3mpg. I think unless you spend the money on a 3" glass pack the 2.5" restricts it too much.
Im looking to quiet it just a bit. Looking at either insulating more or a different muffler.

i was thinkin' of runnin' 2-3" glass packs inline. i think the flow would be better and the second muffler should cancel out a good bit of the resonance.
another bonus is that a glass pack can be tucked up out of the way a lot easier.

yep. lift. i haven't got that far yet. so i'll probably have a tucked exhaust way before i can lift it. but a lift is in the plans!

Just some insight maybe. I know it's all opinion based, but "revving" up the 4.2 with all these fancy mods will sound like a 650cc Crotch rocket. Unless that's what you're into

That is what I'm into, and it sounds nothing like that. I personally think a loud I6 sounds like somebody trying to hum a note while throwing up.

Both equally terrible sounding. I have a Magnaflow and I can't stand it. If you want your exhaust to sound like a biplane then by all means go for it. But don't go complaining about it like I am if you don't like it.

I have 3" exhaust with a ebay stainless muffler (see my build thread, its in there somewhere) the 2500rpm drone was so loud you couldn't think.

My custom resonator is in there as well. But loud, no rasp, no drone. Just healthy.

I made this video awhile back for someone on the OS who wanted to make their I6 "sound like a V8" with an exhaust. It's rather sarcastic.

BUT, I have a two chamber welded muffler (like a 40 series) so you can get an idea of what it sounds like.

I still have my stock muffler and plan to put it back on.
