Hello All!

Wanted to drop by before I depart on my upcoming adventure. As of tomorrow I should be officially Alaska Bound. While Summer is quickly fading on the Northern Slope, I'm determined as hell to have an amazing time exploring and taking my time through the region. I don't know how often I'll be posting, but I'll be uploading as many pics/vids as I can via my site of this one. I hope they'll be worthy :fro:

Anyway, back to packing...

Adios Amigos!

P.S > Any camping recommendations near the coast (California, Oregon, Washington, BC) - please post up :)

Have fun dude!!

A few places I like to camp in California are:

Indian Valley Reservoir - just outside of Lake County ( PLENTY of wheeling fun to be had there)

Shasta - anywhere around the lake is gorgeous.

Eagle Lake - about an hour past Auburn

Northern BC is the most beautiful place you will ever see. Make sure to gas up when you can though and have fun.

See ya later! Good news about autumn freezes in Alaska is it kills off the weak mosquitos, I've heard. The ones smaller than hummingbirds.

Problem is some are larger, and own electric blankets.

Glad to hear you're heading off Greg!

I haven't explored much of the area, but if you're heading up the 101 in WA, it should pass some great camping spots. The area around La Push is pretty incredible. I wish I could have camped out there. Olympic National Park could also offer some great spots. If I recall, there's an area along the west side known as basically being a rainforest too. Might be a neat place to check out. You can take a ferry from Port Angeles to Victoria. Makes for a fun border crossing.

Good luck! Post as often as you can, we're all jealous!

Assume you researched the regs for taking dogs into Canada.

Thanks all, looking forward to sharing some memories along the way. Truck is running great, so smooth with the new header. Should've replaced that thing last year :slap:

Plans are slowly forming, targeting to depart Prince Rupert, BC, via ferry to Haines. Luckily, this late in the season they still have availability North bound (South bound for vehicles is essentially booked for the 'Summer'). Fingers crossed I get a reservation when I call tomorrow, the water views and various port stops should be fun.

Canada? Border crossings? Don't get me started. Spent a pretty penny getting him legit along with his 'papers' signed off. I'm more annoyed at their gun restrictions. I'm heading to bear country with spray only, both of my firearms are considered 'prohibited' :pale: Kicking myself for not realizing this sooner, would've waited the ten days for a shotgun or something.

Hmm, I do an axe on the trailer, ha...

You can walk into any Walmart in Oregon and pick up a shotgun in no time. I think.

That's how it is here but I guess some states may be stricter on gun sales.

Wouldn't they still require you follow CA law? I'm not sure how that works.

I think he needs an in state ID to walk out with it that day. It's been awhile since I've purchased something that wasn't a private sale.

Besides, everyone knows you buy guns from Bi-Mart in the NW.

the Walmart here wouldn't sell me a gun because my address on my DL was different than my mailing address (we had just moved).

Exactly. So once in Alaska they would have to follow CA law where I'm a resident. Too much overhead for them considering how many states have different bastardized systems in place - essentially shops will not go through the trouble (or they require to transfer to a FFL in your home state, which kinda defeats the purpose).

Argh...
