U Joints Going bad after Lift?!?!

BDS, ReadyLift, Smaxx... You name it, we know about it here.

by Cable810 » Wed May 02, 2012 6:21 pm

Quite a few people that I have talked to about my lift(telling them what I'm doing and such) said/suggested that I replace my U Joints shortly after I lift. I searched and didn't really find anything. Unless I'm looking in the wrong spot? From what I read and have been told we are more likely to have problems w/our CV boots comeing off, BJ going bad, Tie Rods, Hub Bearing/Assembly, and End Links than anything else. AM I wrong?

Anyone have there U Joints go bad after lift?

I think with older jeeps the U joints would develop a wear pattern and when you lifted them the angle was a little different so they would make more noise. The issue was the joints were already worn, the lift just made that more clear.

Ok I don't know why people are telling me all of this, I plan on replacing the BJ, and Tie Rods ASAP after the lift and putting some hose clamps on the CV Boots. Then we see what happens from there.

Thanks guys!!

depending on your mileage your BJ and tie rods might actually be ok.
I'm at 95k and my TB has mostly seen highway miles until recently and they are still good.
Yours is a lot older but might be ok as well. If your TRE are questionable I would go ahead and replace them so you only have to get one alignment.

:Iagree:
I'm at similar mileage and by BJs are still good. Of course, theres never any harm in replacing suspension components, maybe just no need either. The choice... is yours.

I know with the jeeps, they have U joints on the front axles and when you lift you are changing that angle a good bit and the wear becomes more noticeable. We don't have U joints on our front axles to wear.
