Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

I have gone round and round with Lifts....

BDS, ReadyLift, Smaxx... You name it, we know about it here.

Yes I have permission to do this.

If I recall are you the one that needs to keep it lower for an ailing grandparent or something?
I remembered the story but not who it was and didn't see it in this thread.

Hey before you make the decision on the lift. Why don't you get your tires first? Then do what Navigator suggested about jacking it up and let your parents see it. Then you can see what it looks like with the tires you are going to be running.

Then maybe they would agree to having friends that have done the lift to do it instead of paying a mechanic that doesn't have the experience do it and it will save you some money. And you get to meet up with other GMT360 people at the same time.

Thats not a bad idea DJ!But my parents would rather have a mechanic do it, than some guy I met on the internet even though they have done this over and over. I have a friend that lifted his Jeep a few years back, and he is comeing up in June but I would like this done before he comes up.

If I go 3" will I have to extend my steering linkage or any other major components. That was another area of concern.

You need to do some reading and studying. You don't touch the steering w a suspension lift but an alignment is required so budget that too.

they've always worked for me.

The installed price inclues an alignment. If I'm "to do some reading and studying" can you/anyone point me in the direction I need to be going?

LOL can the mechanic guarantee that the lift is done right? Some of are or were mechanics, some are engineers, some are just that damn much better than a mechanic to install a lift. I guess you aren't allowed to fix the computer because you are not a trained technician...

:Iagree:

No he cannot garentee that it will be done right. I'm having taking that chance. Yes I know that some of you have dones this more than local mechanics. I would rather have someone who has done this to our truck multiple times than a local mechanic who has not done this. Unforuntally with Gas at 3.80 I cannot afford to travel to have the lift done :hissyfit:

I spent 2 hours using the search function last night. I know where the search is but what on earth do I search. Do you want me to tell you what I searched???? I searched for MarkMc 3" Lift, MarkMc Suspension, MarkMc 3" suspension, MarkMc 2.5" Lift, and Hardtrailz Build. On each search I went 5 pages.

There are suspension install instructions in our articles section: http://www.offroadtb.com/articles/how-t ... tallation/

Your gas logic is flawed. If you're going to pay a mechanic $400 to do the install, that much gas will get you 1500 miles worth of driving - conservatively.

Its 300 but I see your point. The way marks 2.5 installs, If I choose to get marks, I will need(I want to) to replace the Strut Top Mount and Spring Insulator? Like I said its over 140K.

If I get Rough Country Kit and It breaks on me can I still drive on it?

Are you asking if the top strut mount breaks, can you still drive on it?

These "internet guys" come with testimonials and can be vouched for. On YOUR platform. Mechanics usually are learning as they go along on YOUR DIME.

Sigh...another over-cautious parent.

You will be well-served when they no longer have a say.

listen to your parents man, they will be right most of the time.
The money and trouble you save over your lifetime by listening to them will be much greater than the little you waste paying to get this lift installed.

These should be my last questions. Marks 2.5" kit uses these parts Strut Top Mount and Spring Insulator. I KNOW I DO NOT HAVE TO REPLACE Them. On rock Auto they have I think what I'm looking for. Which ones below would I need to purchase? I know exactly what I need to purchase but I would like some imput on these.

Shock Mount

Shock Mounting Kit
http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=1129502
Strut Mount:

http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=1970314
http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=1033966

There was another but I cannot pull up the Info.

For the Spring Insulator I will need to get Front Lower?

Honestly Caleb, if I were going your route I would start taking everything apart.
If I noticed anything cracked/worn (and I didn't have another car) I would button it all back up and order replacements.
Most vehicles are going to run those same parts for 200k miles or more and no one will ever notice a problem.
The dig here is that it is cheaper for you to replace all those parts than to pay the labor to do it 2X.
The rubber parts are more likely to be worn, it is likely the mount itself is fine but there is really no way to know outside of tearing into it.
I couldn't compare prices, if I was in your situation and could replace it all for <$100 I would likely do it all and be done with it.
