Diagnosing 4wd Confusion...thought it was solved...its not:(

Something not working right?

The only one I see of your pictures is this one:

You need to be hitting this one from the seal side, hitting it towards the inside of the vehicle. There's nothing holding it in, it's just a press.

Just thought I'd chime in on this one. Mud sent me his old housing (the one pictured), though it's quite a bit cleaner now. All I had to do was take a screwdriver (tip wrapped in electrical tape), whack my way down the side of the ridges on both sides, alternating, and pop! Whole thing (bearing and seal) came out in less than 5 minutes. After a thorough cleaning, I've installed new bearings and the new seal, and the outer side is ready to go! I'll be reusing my inner, so no need to mess with his, but just thought I'd share the easy method to get these things out that requires no specialty tools. Just use a c clamp, shop towel, clamp the outer housing to the side of a work table, then use previously mentioned screwdriver with taped head and a MFH and you're good.

Thanks so much for helping me out with the parts man. I just figured I'd let you know how I was able to get the seals and bearings out, just in case your disco blows up again (unlikely unless you're fish :)), and you need to rebuild it again. I haven't put everything back together yet, but I'm looking forward to some more wheeling once I do.

Also, the distribution of parts is an awesome thing! I should mention that your inner housing is probably going to New York! I don't need it, so I'm passing it along.

Lol, that's awesome having parts all over the place. And no problem, glad I could help out! If mine blows up again, ill be buying a awd sleeve and sending it to fish to rebuild it. I'm good at installing things, not so good with that kinda stuff.
