CV Shaft Replacement

Something not working right?

Mine did get hung up at this point also (your pic #1) but with some jiggling did go in. Yours is not in at this point and if the shaft is short it should slide in and not lock.
Now that I've looked closer at the pics Mario may be right. Are there different sized assembles on different years?

Give us the part number of what you have! I agree, I think it is to small and the incorrect part.

Looks about right compaired to the last one I did... I remember thinking the new one is too short when the old one was sitting next to it. But the CV and Tri-pod were just sucked in tight on the new one and the old one was so loose it looked allot longer.

I think you read this the same as I did.

As it turns out, I think the question is the spline length on the inward side of the assembly.

Looking at it now, it does look weird, could still be the camera angle. Or maybe its the reason he hasn't posted the answer... it is the wrong shaft :shock: :poke:

Im having a problem getting my new cv shaft to click in. Just spent a couple hours with it and its like 1/2"-1" shy of clicking in. I tried putting hub end in first, then diff end in first, nothing. When I took the old one out the first time to fix the boot when the clamp come off it was a pita but went back in, this one just wont go for anything. Double checked splines and all matched up with old cv. Any tips/tricks to getting it to seat back in right? Do you guys put the Hub or Diff end in first? This shouldnt be this damn hard.

Always the diff end first. Inspect the circlip. Inspect the bearing for loose rollers. Inspect the seal. If they're all good, then just use s 1-2 pound rubber mallet on the hub end of the shaft to seat the circlip. Make sure the shaft is all in line.

Ok thanks a lot roadie. I have the UCA/UBJ disconnected, Caliper off, Steering arm disconnected from hub. Should I undo the top 2 strut assembly nuts? Or is that even needed to get the hub end in 2nd?

I've changed CV shafts on the trail without taking off the strut.

Thats what I was telling my buddy that brought me over a 18mm Socket cause for some odd reason I dont own a 18mm socket or wrench, 17 straight to 19. Told him I know a few of you have done this change on the trails so it has to be something easy Im just not doing right lol.

Not "easy" easy, but moderately easy. If you have something hanging up in the way of the splines, like an exploding bearing. Then you will get a "moderate" task to perform. :happy whip:

Went this morning to Orilieys and grabbed a rubber mallet, only 1 they had on the shelf was 3lbs so grabbed it and few wacks it was seated. Thanks a ton. Hate when I spend hours fooling with something then find out a way it takes a few minutes lol. But thanks again roadie. Now to finish installing my Sway bar disconnects, Got 1 side done and 1/2 the other side. Taking a quick break cause starting to hurt again.

Does 103 foot pounds sound right for the axle nuts? I got that from the How too on the front wheel bearing but seemed awful light to me and awful odd number. Is that supposed to be 130?

Confirmed at 103 ft lbs. GM is a metric based company, so they officially use 140 Nm, converted to 103 ft lbs. That's why it's an odd number.
