A/C not working right

Something not working right?

by biggerwolf » Tue Aug 02, 2011 8:08 pm

ok i have searched and did not find anything. My A/C is not blowing cold air, it is fully charged and the compressor cycles like it should. i am just not getting any cold air out of it. do the switches go bad in the TB? if so is there a way to check it before I just replace it?

Is your exterior temp sensor working? When mine was bad (showing -35* when it was 100* outside), it blew hot air. Turns out it was just unplugged.

For clarity: Is it blowing hot air? or is it not blowing at all?

By now I would be searching the OS. Not that we probably wouldn't figure it out but they have this kind of troubleshooting all over the site. And there is no way I could be without A/C this time of the year.

Is the receiver/dryer cold? The silver canister on the passenger side of the firewall. If that's not cold, all hope is gone. Your compressor should not be cycling without refrigerant in it.

If the receiver is cold, then you might have failures on BOTH side's temperature actuators. Do you feel any difference in performance between left and right controls?

Next you have to take the dash apart and watch the actuators turn their shafts to see if anything's getting powered. Might be as simple as one dead fuse, but I HAVE to assume you checked those first.

Yes i did check all the fusesand they are fine. the receiver/dryer was not cold when i checked it it, but there was refrigerant in the system i drained it and put new back in. i have not taken the dash apart. i am thinking its time to take it to someone who know more about the AC system than i do. thanks for all the help.

Are you certain your A/C clutch is working?

If the compressor cycles as you said in your first post, and the receiver dryer isn't cold, I suspect a roached compressor or cloggage in the system. Check pressures next.
