Isuzu Ascender in SC

Hello everyone,
I picked up a 2004 Isuzu Ascender, long wheel base 4x4 recently. I did a search for lifts and quickly found trailvoy.com and this site. I've learned tons about my truck already. I now have hope that I can turn this thing into the offroad monster it wants to be. I plan on getting my Jap badged-wiener dog trail worthy soon. I'll start a build thread as soon as I get parts in my hands. Thanks for the awsome forum Guys!

Thanks Guys, it's good to know my rig won't be the only redheaded stepchild around here. Was actually looking for a Trailblazer but my wife fell in love with the Ascender.

We owned a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo Sport (before kids) that was her daily driver so it felt like home to her. She is a very cool lady, when it comes letting me do what I want to our cars. She always wanted me to lift that Rodeo Sport so I'm gonna make it up to her now.

This truck will be a daily driver and weekend warrior. I have already had it off road in the mountains of NC and was surprised with what I found. Good low range, and awsome traction on climbs that would slide my XJ and Ram all over the place. I have high hopes for this rig as a moderate wheeler and North American expedition vehicle.

I am also going to lift my '96 Outback, and I am restomodding a '95 SVX. What can I say I like quirky cars with all weels powered!

I think the Isuzu will get the treatment first. It will be a much cheaper build than the Subies.

Welcome! I always forgot if the Isuzus got the good drivetrain with the NP226 lo-range transfer case. The Olds and Saab variants were stuck with the NP126 and A4WD mode only, and were less capable offroad. Congrats on a great choice.

My wife's had a Subie wagon for 30 out of the last 33 years, and I showed her a picture of the Superu when I saw it, and started eying the Aussie lift kit. She put that thought out of my head quickly. No more than one lifted vehicle in our driveway, is the rule from SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED.

Welcome glasscaster! Glad to see I'm not the only Ascender here. Story is similar here. Had an Isuzu Rodeo, than traded it in for the Ascender.

Roadie, the Isuzu's do have the NP226.

They did have the NP226 available, but the cool features like the driver information center were only available on the 7-passenger wiener dog variety.

I don't think they offered many options for the Ascender, at least not compared to the TB/Envoy. I was originally planning on buying one, but couldn't find one in town and bought a TB instead. The Buick also has the AWD, no 2-speed 4WD.

That sucks, Roadie!! I would love to see what you would do to a Subaru. My Outback will need head gaskets soon. So... might as well do a WRX/STI swap right? Thats why the Isuzu will be first.

Also, thanks for the youtube vids!! They are how I found Trailvoy and Offroadtb, and that is what led to our purchase of the Ascender. The more I learn about my truck the more I like it. You should have seen the look on my Dad's face when I listed the drivetrain specs for him (he's a Corvette guy). There are some pretty stout components under these things for their size. It's like some lawyer at GM sabotaged the front end though .
