Loose Ground?

Something not working right?

by Blackout » Wed Apr 27, 2011 12:48 pm

Does anyone know where this loose ground is supposed to go? Found it just dangling in the engine bay when I was messing around in there.

That's not a ground.

That line connects to your fuse block to give direct 12v + to the trailer harness. Used when your need constant + at the harness.

As far as I've seen and on mine, they are not hooked up when built only when needed by the owner.

Good deal, thanks.

I sort of figured that'd be the case and I'd end up looking like an idiot.

No, good question. :coffee:

A red wire is usually a positive lead. If not hooked up in a circuit it is typically not used or for an option not used on the vehicle.

Good point. I should have known that. Been sort of burned out from school lately so my brains sort of mush right now.

Is this the first documented case of this question being asked here?

And to think I skipped the thread because of the title, not thinking it was the well-documented (but not here) "red ring lug" issue. :wallbash: Too late for a snarky reply now. :?

Yeah. I definitely feel like an idiot. Do I get a pass since I don't frequent the OS? :thumleft:

No, because for simple issues like this, you can SEARCH the OS without "frequenting" it. :slap:

Use Google and restrict the search to trailvoy: "red ring lug site:trailvoy.com"

Of course, it's not trivial to know that "red ring lug" is the most fruitful search phrase. So I guess you can stay. :lurk:

Future reference - if you do find yourself trailering and needing the full power, this line is not connected from the factory. When needed, this line is long enough to be pulled up and you mount it to the power lead to the fuse box right there. That allowes you to use the big circle trailer power thingy (yes, thats the proper technical term)
