Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

Lifted... finally

BDS, ReadyLift, Smaxx... You name it, we know about it here.

by djthumper » Sun Apr 24, 2011 6:14 pm

Well I finally got my lift installed and was able to get it in to check the alignment fairly quick. They told me to come back after putting 1000 miles on it to recheck the alignment after everything settles. Thanks to a lifetime alignment. :) Now to work on getting me some bigger tires, I want to be around 31" since I have 3.42s.

I wish I could have gotten the lift on a couple of weeks ago. I could have used it last weekend.

Here are the before and after pics of the lift along with measurements.

I need the torque for some of the hills I go up while hauling trailers.

Smart move. The unfortunate 3.42 guys don't know what they're missing until they drive a truck with some gearing.

When you're ready to swap drive up here and we'll do it. ;)

Just gotta use 3rd.

Larry, I'm actually in this same quandary right now. Do I bump up to 33s? or do I stick with 32s? I'm going to need tires before my trip. I have adjusted to driving with the 32s, I'm not sure there's a big jump between that and 33s. I imagine I'll eventually regear to 4.10s, but it will probably be 12+ months in the timeline.

Hard to decide.

Yeah the part of the reason I need to keep the torque.

I might take you up on that or you can come down here. ;)

In Utah there is a camp I help out at that we haul trailers up the road that climbs out at 900 feet in 1.5 miles on a winding dirt road and make it worse when it rains.

I almost would say stay with the 32s because your trip you are going to hit some fairly steep climbs. The 33s may help your gas mileage but without torque you slow to a crawl on those climbs.

I had thought that too, but D3 will be fine with the 33s. I'd be in D3 with the 32s anyways - so there's not much of a difference there.

Larry,

Looking good!

Which lift did you use? Oh now I see, Mark's. :coffee:

To stay with the thread jacking…Why would James get better fuel mileage with a 33" tire over his 32"s?

Congrats on the lift.

Yeah I just used 3rd up hills and that's towing my jeep from Seattle to Vegas.

But nice job on the lift can't wait to see it. Hit me up sometime and well go wheeling.

I usually go up to little red rock or potato ridge. But my 4wd isn't working just yet lol

As you go down the power band and lose torque you actually gain a slight bit in your gas mileage. But there is the thing of going too far down the band that it takes you more fuel to get going and up to speed. If you look at this chart you can see some of what I am talking about, http://www.4wheelparts.com/aux_incl/gear_ratio.html

Well when we are towing heavier loads we should be in 3rd anyhow, according to the manual anyhow. Probably since the torque converter may not lock when it is slipping in and out of OD.

Definitely, I am tied up the next 3 weekends but we can definitely get something going.
