You're going to buy a 2WD?

Honestly, it sounds like you may be more meant for our sister-site: trailvoy.com

I don't understand your logic then... you admit it sucks... so why not just get a 4WD?

You do plan to wheel it... right?

I do agree... If you were doing a SAS, you'd have to change the transmission, anyway, for a 4WD transmission (of the same year range, for the electronics), and find a T-case... I'm not sure there's room for a divorced T-case back there, otherwise... Probably be best off just getting a 4WD TB, then just ditching the front diff for a SAS, if you decide to go that direction...

Sand an mud in FL is one of those places where I'd rather have an open diff 4x4 than a locked diff 2WD...

What about letting the TB just believe it's a 2WD. Then getting a 4WD 4L60e later along with a 205(will a 205 fit a 4L60e?) xfer case and manual hubs? The 226 does have it's limits as far as strength.

4X4 would be a better platform to start with, however the price for the 2wd truck is unpassable. As far as doing the sas swap by next week..... ummmm no! It will take a little bit more than a week, however i will keep everyone posted on the progress. Any thoughts on the Unimog 715 axles?

Oh btw, Im looking for black leather int (complete)

That's what I'm talking about, but you need a 4WD transmission for the ability to hook to a transfer case (i.e. a 205 or something). You could do a divorced 205 with the 2WD transmission, but I'm not sure there's room without doing something to the fuel tank, and running a double-cardan joint...

Ok, well if you're beginning an SAS immediately, then I guess it's ok.

Unimog - aren't those portal axles? You'll have a lot of lift, that's for sure. You'll certainly want to carve out the oil pan if you use portals so you don't end up sitting too high.

Even without portals, without ditching the IFS subframe and custom fabricating a new oil pan (or waiting on the one EFI-DIY is getting done, and paying out the nose for it due to casting and machining small volumes) and pickup, it's going to be in the "big dumb truck" height range... Fine for mud, but will be top heavy enough to be nearly un-crawlable, I suspect...

For everyone worried about the truck being too high, he (we) are in South Florida, the biggest rocks here are the curbs at walmart... It's all about big power and big tires to power through the mud, as well as a big lift to clear the body from going underwater.
