Wheel Bearing

Something not working right?

by signguy62 » Thu Sep 30, 2010 10:44 am

Started getting suspect bearing noise from front passenger side. Bought new hub Monday and 75 miles later the bearing grenaded, blew the rear seal clean off. What would cause a new bearing to explode except for a fault in the part?

I wouldn't worry about that too much if the part had a manufacturer's warranty. Now if they replace it and it continues to happen I would worry and try a different company's part.

Do you have pictures of the failure and bearing surfaces?

Without seeing it, I can only guess that maybe the bearing walked out of it's press.

Will take pix when I take it apart. Just happened yesterday, had it towed home and will work on it Sat. I think I saw the rear seal laying on the side of the road this morning on my way to work. Will stop and pick it up on the way home.

Hub assembly does/is under warrantee. Parts guy said, just bring back the bad one and they'll replace.

So what's the root failure? I also wasn't expecting balls... I thought they'd be tapered roller bearings?

Mind sharing the brand?

I have an Timken on one of mine. Can't remember the other brand I used.

The box says "Parts Master" and in little tiny writing at the bottom it says "Manufactured in China"
