Curt Universal Spare Tire Carrier

Dumping ground for offroad Trailblazer or Envoy general discussion.

Has anyone taken a look at this carrier?
It gives 3 different holes to mount it on.... And it looks like it holds the spare on a bit of an angle... so you could get it pretty close to the rear.
The questions on the bottom give some measurements, but I'm 350 miles away from my tb so I can't see right now if it would work...
For that price, I wouldn't mind giving it a try. It may have to be tweaked a bit, but it seems like everyone whos gotten a carrier has tweaked theirs anyways.
Only thing I'm worried about is how much weight it can hold

Btw it doesn't fold down, which kinda sucks but I'm sure that could be changed

AlekG ran this carrier (Modified, however), for a while. He cut the receiver mount off of the Curt and used a Surco Fold Up Rack Adapter instead. Allowing the tire to swing down. The location of the tire looked to be really good, nice and close to the truck.

Here's his thread on the OS. Still waiting for him to bring it over here...

I'm pretty sure that Zero is currently the owner of the Curt/Surco Carrier...

I believe Kyle has that same one as well. I would say your biggest limitation is going to be that it doesn't fold. For not much more money, I am sure you can take one of the many designs into a local welding shop and get them to produce what you want.
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.

I do have one. I was gonna cut it up since I got it on ebay 4 cheaper than that, but got a folder that is hopefully getting mounted on some 2 inch square stock now
I hate to advocate weird chemicals, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone...but
they've always worked for me.

Just to clarify, yes I am the current owner of AlekG's spare tire carrier. It was Roadies before it was Alek's. So it is a traveling mod hahaha. I wonder who will get it next as I want a swing gate built onto my bumper.

Back when I was young and foolish and didn't know how important approach angle was going to be, I even tried it out on the front with a Curt 31055 receiver. Another item making the rounds, or maybe Mike's stuck with it now?

Had no idea people had already run this... But if you're serious about getting rid of it, I might be interested

Bill,

I still have the front hitch. GordinHO80 was going to hit it, but shipping was a concern... I have it, and haven't been trying to sell it, but haven't been trying to keep it, either...

Howdee, you can always refer to my Overland Travel blog X88 expeditions for the information that is not here. I spent a LOT of time filling out my blog and will be bringing all the info over here eventually, but man, I have to get the will up to do a third copy-paste.
