New tyres!

Need new shoes? This is the place to discuss.

Yep, tyres.
Went with the Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor LT265/70R17 Load Range E / 10 ply. Had them installed a couple of hours ago. Finally gone are my old Michelin LTX M/S P245/65/17.

Size comparison. I have a feeling that the real size of the Michelins was slightly under 29.5"

I haven't done any cutting yet, as I still have to see where the tyres rub (and if they rub at all).

EDIT. As of now, based on my observations there is no rub

Very good choice! Roadiemobile Rev 1: (god, I can't believe I let them put armor-all on them at the tire store)

Yeah, I considered your 1,000s of miles of offroad abuse on those tires to be your seal of approval. And I just realized that there is a $40 mail in reb ate from Goodyear, so I'll make sure to send that in before going home for the break.

We had the Wrangler AT/S LT (I regret not seeing if they were C, D or E) mounted on our Land Cruiser and they were great, my dad did complain about added noise and "feeling everything" but that they were way better than the OEM crap.

The guys at Ponderosa Tire first tried one on for a test fit, then did the rest, but by then the manager said that they should fit since I had spacers, and then asked if other people had used this size before, as you can see there is quite a bit of difference. And they didn't offer me the Armor-all :excited: :excited: . I gues sthat asking for oversized LT E tires for a lifted TrailBlazer (plus being willing to pay the extra money for the E vs the C + the shipping from CA) proved enough that I wasn't a mall cruiser.

On a sidenote, after seeing how the Michelins looked like and how much they put up with, they are still my #1 highway all-season tire. They definitely survived in conditions they were not designed for. But by now, they're almost 3 years old, dry-rotten, and they're already missing rubber and one even had like a bent nail or large roofing staple. So if anyone at the OS asks for a highway tire recommendation, I will always recommend these, at least until I see something better.

Is that a 31.5" without a lift? Or is there a lift on it too? I always wondered how big would fit without a lift.

Yeah it doesn't look that lifted in the picture, either because of the large tires or because of something to do with the angle of the picture, or that of the parking lot (which we often call the 45 degree parking lot).

I get to use the tires for driving on dirt tomorrow :excited:
