Metal banging noise.

Something not working right?

by lil_freak_66 » Tue Jun 08, 2010 7:33 pm

got the tires changed yesterday, since then ive been hearing metal on metal banging or popping coming from the wheel areas, most notably the front.
usually happens when turning,at any speeds under 30 mph, most often when turning tightly.
Does not always make the noise, only about 30% of the time that i turn.

i dont know what to look for,any ideas? the tires are not rubbing

possibly due to the mechanic's lack of quality service?

or just age(im at 130-135K)

it did not make any noises until after tires were put on

I put on new tires at 138K and went with a slightly larger size. (this was days before I found this website :wallbash: )

Anyway, it became verfy apparent vary quickly that my lower strut mount was weak, as were my lower ball joints. When driving it was more a looseness in the front end and some rattles. We had to put it up on the hoist to figure out exactly what was loose.

well that explains my rattling noises too...

i only went to a 255-70-16 so i dont think the bigger tires would bother it much.

guess im hitting up the parts place!
