I haven't planned or decided on anything, so chill out. And I did send a response to you. If you didnt get it, im sorry I will re send it. Just dont bash me on the the forum, making it seem I just leave people hanging like some ass hole.

All i said is that I have another option, my rally driving friend. Even he cant confirm right now.

Status update....

Picking up a tent tomorrow. Hopefully a second one Monday just in case 1 cant fit 3- 4 of us.

Still saving cash for gas / food / booze / skid plate

Tow Hooks installed ! Sad its taken this long! Cant beleive I went out with Roadie without them.

One of my buddies I do stunts with looks like a lock as a co pilot....should be able to confirm 100% monday.

Still have MTR's....tryin to sell them before the trip and get Duratracs.

Going to grab some plastic dishes for camping / propane (x6) / new globe for northstar lantern

Hopefully get trany cooler bought and installed.

Thanx to AlekG, I think I have most of the camping necessities. I am hopefully sitting down with him this weekend to go over a route and confirm things.

Do I need to bring firewood? I have a bag of charcoal made from Jackdaniels whiskey barrels. Should I bring that?

You're not supposed to take firewood more than 50 miles from where it was cut... Has bugs in it...

Hahaha o ya, I totally forgot about that rule. I guess I can grab some local wood once I get down there if need be. Do you guys every use those "eco" logs? Made of wood chips, and safe for the planet?

It is a national forest, I believe you can harvest deadwood. I know you can get a permit to cut firewood for removal and personal use.

I get that, but some of us are members (or soon to be member) of treadlightly. I believe they ask you not to use dead wood, or even dried sticks on the ground....because as mentioned earlier they are homes for bugs, and the breakdown helps keep the soil rich with nutrients.

I guess what I am waiting for now is JD to step in and let us know the rule is for the trip. What the park may allow, he may have a different rule for. :coffee: I know the Roadie is really strict about leaving nothing behind, and taking what you need, including wood with you. leaving the smallest possible impact on the land possible is of great concern.

Tread Lightly has this on their site:

Observe all fire restrictions. If you must build a fire—use existing fire rings, build a mound fire, or use a fire pan. Use only fallen timber for campfires. Do not cut standing trees. Clear a 10-foot diameter area around the site by removing any grass, twigs, leaves and extra firewood. Also make sure there aren’t any tree limbs or flammable objects hanging overhead.

I know in the National Forests in the Sierra Nevada's west side, the rangers encourage all the deadfall harvesting you want. Its use as habitat is far outweighed by its danger as fuel build-up. Every piece picked up and burned safely is a piece they don't have to pay contractors to haul away to make the forest safer.

In the desert, park rules are different.

When I spent a couple weeks in the Everglades National Park the Ranger that stopped said to pick up all we wanted and burn it since the hurricanes had knocked so much down. He said we could even cut the broken tops if we wanted.

I support Tread Lightly as well.

I assume we will bury our droppings???

EDIT--It does seem to go against Treading Lightly when they tell you to clear a 10 foot area of everything including grass. That is much harder on the enviroment than just driving over some areas.

I hope we can throw them in a hole too. The nice thing about going out with Roadie was his Trasharoo. Kept all the stinky-ness outside. I hate to drive around with bags of poop for 3 days hahaha.

Zero...You know if you are getting the Duratracs, you can join Tread Lightly for $25 and get $100 off a set of Goodyear's? Pretty good deal if you are getting tires.

We can dig a hole and cover our droppings. Last time I had some explosive something from one of the meals I ate... wasn't fun and I kinda wished I had a proper bathroom at the time.

I've developed a decent method though... take a ratchet strap and strap it around a tree branch, hang it low enough to go under your arm pits.... put your feet against the tree trunk base and crap your heart out... much easier than squatting. :flower:

And yes, we'll just harvest wood from the forest. There's actually a hidden foot trail south from meadow knob we should maybe check out.

Just lean against a tree or hay bale or something has always worked for me.

I have thought about the toilet seat that slides in the reciever and you hang a bag to catch stuff. Just so the fiance would be a little more comfy.

Thanx for the heads up on the money saver. I also found out good year is has a $15 off per tire special as well. I really need to get my tires sold so I can afford the new rubber.

Bad new JD, I am on the fence again.

My co pilot just had 2 sudden deaths in his family, and is leaving town for a month to take care of funeral and family biz.

I have almost everything I need in terms of my half of the gas money and camping supplies. I am still going to get a tent tonight and try to complete my kit in case my other 2 friends on the back burner end up being able to make it.

I am really sorry about this back and forth, its a pain in the ass. :salut:

Well I hope you can make it! If your secondary copilot options don't agree to the trip - make it to Harrisonburg and I'll top off your tank, eh?

Also, if you pick it up in person (like YOU... IN PERSON... AT TECORE), I'll knock another $20 off the skid plate price if it helps you show up...
