Yep, more than likely... I've had that happen before on gunked up engines that I've been working on...

The older penzoil apparently had a lot of parafin (wax) in it, which caused it to turn to shit in pretty rapid fashion...

I have no idea about the newer stuff...

Penzoil Platinum, even though it's a highly refined dino synthetic, apparently offers better protection than Mobil 1 (per general consensus at BITOG), and is plenty cheaper...

yeah, It's their old line of oil, I don't think they have the same issue's now, But I've never used their oil, so I couldn't tell ya for sure... I do remember plenty of times, tearing down motors for my dad as a kid, and have him turn to the customer and say:
"You must have ran Pennzoil!!"

"SURE did!! How did you know"

That was then my cue to hold up a handfull of sludge out of the bottom of the pan!!

Mobil 1 for me. Every car, every 5000 miles, never any oil-related problems. (ie tapping, knocking, leaking, burnt oil, sludge).

Ahhh, what a productive sunday... Changed out all fluids:

Front/ Rear diff
Tranny
T-case
Engine oil

Then put on my drilled/slotted rotors and new pads I've had sittin' in my apartment for the last few months.
And also installed Redline hood struts.. Pics to come tomorrow, no daylight left.

Ughhh... also noticed yesterday that one of the Z71 Tahoe shocks I put on is busted and oil is leaking out and all over the shock. Oh well, I guess you get what you pay for. :?

So now that gives me the excuse to get the BDS rear shocks, which I just ordered. So those will bee on soon. 8-)

Well I have the tires rotated, and skid plate on order...I also spent some time on HPtuners with AlekG......oil change up next, then the battery is up. I should get my tow hooks on at some point too.

oil pressure gage is jacked up...fan control switch only works on 4 and 5...exhaust is retarded and too loud (have a thrush glass pack..sounds like a stupid ricer but bumped me up 2 mpg...soo it stays till i get pulled over or next inspection) changing out all fluids...then im doing my lift...shocks first then z71 springs then suspension lift! then tires...

oil pres gauge in our truck doesnt tell you shit, so dont worry

if your exhaust is too loud, you can put another glass pack in line or add a resonator. that will help deepen the sound, and get rid of the rice-ness you hearing.

the fan control switch is an issue many have. I think there is a simple fix, there are a lot of threads on it.

ya i was never too worried about the oil pressure gage...i knew it was bad and if i was having an issue id notice it performance wise before looking at the gage...

and thanks for the link for the resistor pack...ill be getting that done before it gets too ungodly humid here...

Today was a very productive day at the shop.

I changed my oil. I am gona try using amsoils european car blend. it is a 5w40, and surpasses the requirements of GM. Funny thing is I only picked up 6 qrts, so I am just a bit short. Ill grab another qrt or maybe grab a bottle of some lucas oil stabilizer.

noticed a small drip of fluid from the transfer case. Probably from when I did the fluid change, I guess I didnt get the drain bolt on tight enough, so i snugged it up a bit. When I get my next pay check Ill grab another bottle of transfer case fluid and make sure it is toped off.

check the ball joints because i noticed the steering was off. The truck felt very nervous over bumps on the highway.
Turns out I have a bad upper ball joint on the passenger side, and a leaking tahoe shock passenger rear. time to grab the new 9000 series bds rear shocks.

So it looks like I have a few other things to add to my list of crap to buy / fix before tecore. such is life.

Just got off the phone with our parts supplier, man I love getting parts at shop rate!!!

$72 CAD for a new MOOG upper ball joint!!!

even partstrain and gm parts direct cant beat that price! I would have rather put the money towards my skid plate and battery fund, but I cant have an unsafe truck.

I got a set of four from ebay for $60. Installed them in my garage. Saved a boatload of cash that way. Really starting to enjoy doing all of my own repair and maintenance.

4 ball joints for $60? Sounds Chinese. Do you know the brand?
