Pics of Hi-Lift in real use

Hey guys I love the write up JamesDowning has in Articles on Hi-lifts and other recovery aspects. I'd like to ask if anyone has any actual pictures of the Hi-lift being used with our platform, other than on a driveway.

A couple members have gone the route of custom bumpers with the attachment for a Hi-lift and several with rock sliders that can be utilized with them as well.

Anybody got any pictures?

I dont have pics as I havent used mine in years. When I got it way back when I found reasons to use it that didnt exist, but now I hope not to use it. If i do I will try and get you some pics.

A high lift is easily one of the best trail tools to have, i got Irishboy02 out of mud that no truck would have pulled him from. Lifted his front end up and moved it over out of the ruts and placed it on some plywood, and did roughly the same with the back. without the hilift, we would not have gotten him out. I"ve been stuck in nasty ruts in mud where i needed it too quite a few times.

All of the above James. Also trying to justify the cost of the Hi-lift itself and cost of rock sliders being at least dual propose and not just Nerf bars. The reasoning for a bumper to be designed with the Hi-lift in mind and not just for looks and winch compatibility. To see one used in real life, on our platform. To see who has wheeled deep enough to need them and whether or not our trucks even need them. To get a rise out of some and justification from others. Plus my wife thinks there stupid looking.

The times I've been stuck, I've been lucky enough to have another vehicle present give me a tug. If you go out alone, there is no better reassurance for the buck than a hi-lift.

Believe it or not she's wheeled a lot with me in the past and wasn't afraid to get dirty. But I had a winch and a 84 Toyota that went no where in 2wd and anywhere in four. When it got stuck I could always winch out but that hardly ever happened and if it did I always had a buddies rig to hook to get a pull.

I'm trying to find the reasonable thing to do. I don't take this TB where I went with the Toy, trust me, not going to make it. Therefore, is the expense of the winch reasonable, probably not. Would a Hi-lift suffice? Maybe.

Now without sliders or a Heavy duty (real) bumper how do I use one effectively?

Only three ways without a bumper or sliders...

A Lift-mate will allow you to lift directly at the wheels. Very good for passive recovery methods.

A shackle in your rear tow receiver can act as a lift point and a horizontal pull location for winch mode.

Front tow hooks can only act as horizontal pull locations for winch mode.

Tell ya what.... this weekend, a bunch of us are going down to Wharton State Forest. Should one of us get stuck... I'll be sure to take plenty of pics of how the Hi-Lift would be used to get us Un-stuck.

Biggest thing, if you're not running with sliders or a metal bumper, you will need the Lift-Mate attachment.

Nice pics.... looks like you found some snow! That is snow right? if it is, I have 1 question......

I regularly drive through 1'-1.5' of snow, sometimes with muddy roads, or solid ice..... and have never had an issue. How did ya get stuck?

Dude it may look like nothing, but take a closer look... chunks of ice on the side deep ruts, thick snow/ ice. Looks like as the ruts got deeper he ran outta ground clearance and framed out.

I know it looks bad, but I have hit some crazy snow. Just wondering if it was................. one of those times.......

I have hit FRESH (the key word) snow that was about 3-4'' from my window, just over the hood, on top of gravel/mud/ice (not too deep) and plowed right through. Was one of these times on an old friends property that had a closed down gravel mine.

Somewhere I have a photo of getting stuck in a snow bank in my friends truck to the point where we had to dukes of hazzard it outta the windows. The truck got stuck mainly due to it riding up too high on the snow bank and framing out. High lift would have been almost useless, thats when you need another truck.

getting stuck in the snow is the best..... plowing through deep snow can kill ya, ya never know whats there..... I try to avoid it if i can now though.

The other day I was driving down the freeway the roads were clear and dry, I got off the exit, half way through the wind had blowin the snow across the road really bad. Was about 3' deep. I was goin around a corner so it kinda snuck up on me. Had it in Aw4wd so I was good. Plowed right though it, the Mountaineer behind me spun down the side off the road.The trusty old TB pulled him right up a 20-30ft incline with no issues! Told the dude he should have bought a real truck...... he said it was the wife's. (little did he know, so is mine!!!)
Gotta love the TB!!!!
