I originally thought about something like this on my rear door

so in the mean time I have been tossing around this idea
for my receiver adapter I'm using a rage power sports 8" hitch extension its class IV rated

here is my plan

I got all the parts together to get this completed yesterday, so I stopped by the local welder & again he wont weld my stuff..Oh well I’ll do it myself
so I got my own flux core welder & goodies to finish it off once warmer weather gets here. I haven’t welded in years but its like riding a bike, hopefully

Trying to enlarge holes by going up one size bit is a PITA

Got some step bits for my holes, so I get nice straight clean holes & makes life so much easier

Got it welded up & painted

Didn’t care for my original mounting idea so I changed it out, welded on another piece of 4""X8"X3/16" plate over the old piece & then re-drilled using the step bits

Added several layers of duct tape so I didn’t get any corrosion between the steel plate & the aluminum rim as oxidation usually occurs
Letting the sun bake on the paint for a while

Got it mounted & now to get the tire on

All on

I can even open the rear window

Left it on for a week like this while we were on vacation with friends
Then decided I wanted to notch the upright in order to get it to lean backwards ever so slightly
So I took about 5/16" of a notch out

Basically how it’ll look in the upright position

So after carefully grinding all the joints & welding I decided to add some plate across the welded joint just in case, better safe than sorry
& here is my finished product

About 200 miles later & it’s still doing well
