Ok I wanted to beat The Roadie on here and tell you how great it came out. I know he is going to put up a lot of pictures but they just don't do the workman ship justice. So I will build them so they will fit in a regular sized box and be bolt together for the upright mounts. Priceing will be $350 plus shipping and I will work on getting the best deal possable. I just about speechless - Neil and Rick, you guys are ARTISTS in Steel. 1000 thanks for dealing with this on short notice and juggling your many clients and working who knows HOW late to crank this out.
OK - now the hard-core offroadtb folks have to start saving up, but the product will soon be available. State of the art armor needs steel gas tank protection.
Drilling drainage holes
Removable front part for fuel filter and transfer case encoder motor service access
Rock protection bolt shield ring
Still drilling
Ooops, an ex-hole saw
Crossmember doubled up for strength
The tub about ready to install
Front piece bracketry welded on
Penetration looks excellent!

Material - bottom is 3/16". Sides of the tub and vertical mounting straps are 2" X 1/4" stock. I'm certain I can jack it up by the plate, but I'd be curious if JD or Mike can do a quick modeling to predict deflection.

That is really awesome!! $350 + ~$75 (my guess) shipping is really a pretty good deal on these!
One thing I might suggest... Where the front piece bolts on and just hangs off, that would be a great spot to bolt to a plate that goes frame rail to frame rail below the T-case, and also mounts to the trans mount crossmember.

I could do the model, but I don't have ANSYS where I work now... I could have done it 3 years ago, but we don't have it, because it's cheaper for us to slightly over-build custom jobs than it is to spend the time doing the ANSYS...

Very cool looking guys! Are you not planning to use some sort of rust preventative? That thing would turn orange in an instant out this way.
How many mounting bolts actually hold it in place? From the pictures I see 2 bolts across that main 'belt', and one bolt above that. I assume the other vertical tabs bolt to the other fuel tank mounting points?
Also, with such a strong plate, is there any worry about bending the frame instead? If I recall, the area of the frame where the inside tank bolts are located isn't real strong... just strong enough to hold up a 200 lb gas tank.
I'm also not so sure about the belt design... why not use a tube, similar to what existed? A tube would provide much better vertical strength if you're trying to transfer stresses to the opposite frame rail.
My apologies though... I don't mean to nit pick... awesome looking work!

that thing is bad ass!! finally with all the new skid plate the vendors are making i wont have to worry soo freakin much every time i hear something from under the frame when on the trails.
is there a chance you may incorporate some of the suggestions above into the product you are going to sell?
